Amity Institute of Applied Sciences organises International Conference on “Recent Trends in Materials and Devices"
Amity Institute of Applied Sciences started third International Conference on “Recent Trends in Materials and Devices(ICRTMD )” at Amity Campus, Sector- 125, Noida with an objective to provide a stimulating forum to National and International Scholars and Scientists from the field of basic Sciences to discuss and deliberate upon important research and advancements in the field.
Prof. Arvind Pandey- Director, NIMS, ICMR, New Delhi; Prof. K. K. Aggarwal-Chancellor, K.R Mangalam University, Gurgaon; Mr. Shiv Sharma- Associate Director, Hawai'i Institute of Geophysics and Planetology, Honolulu, USA; Mr. Shu Seki -School of Engineering, Osaka University, Japan; Dr. Ashok K Chauhan- Founder President, Amity Education Group; Dr. B Shukla- Acting Vice Chancellor, Amity University, Uttar Pradesh; Prof. Sunita Rattan- Additional Director, Amity Institute of Applied Sciences and Convener, ICRTMD-2013 inaugurated the Conference.
Welcoming the distinguished gathering, Prof. Sunita Rattan- Additional Director, Amity Institute of Applied Sciences and Convener, ICRTMD-2013 said that materials and devices need to be modified for improvising products and technologies, resulting in the urgent need for innovations in basic Sciences. She lamented that although there are numerous technical and research papers published in the field of basic Sciences but those researches need to be utilized for societal welfare. She highlighted the diverse topics that would be covered during the two day Conference and shared that over 300 abstracts would be presented during the Conference along with 16 oral presentations.
Sharing his views, Prof. K. K. Aggarwal-Chancellor, K.R Mangalam University, Gurgaon stressed that Basic Sciences is very important and without Basic Sciences, other Sciences such as Engineering and Mathematical Sciences cannot exist. He stressed that 40 years ago, the base of Science was very strong in India and today, that base is becoming weak, consciously or unconsciously and the country would have to face serious consequences in the coming decades. He remarked that the research in Basic Sciences may not reap immediate results but that does not mean that the research in basic sciences should not be encouraged. History abounds with such examples where a research done over 100 years ago, is utilized for human welfare decades after. He opined that scientists and researchers should be free to carry out research and immediate applicability should not be in focus. He called upon the researchers and scientists to inculcate and promote the habit of thinking, critical analysis and unrestrained flow of ideas.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Ashok K Chauhan- Founder President, Amity Education Group stressed that it is very important to carry out research in the field of materials and devices so that existing technologies and products can be improvised, which is the need of the hour. He assured that the International Conference would bring out concrete results, forging mutually benefitting alliances and researches.
Dr. Balvinder Shukla- Acting Vice Chancellor, Amity University, Uttar Pradesh opined that Basic Sciences is the mother of all researches but the interest in Basic Sciences research in waning. She stressed that when materials are compressed to Nano and Pico sizes then their physical and chemical properties change along with their usability, providing a vast scope of research.
Addressing the gathering, Prof. Arvind Pandey- Director, NIMS, ICMR, New Delhi said that Statistics and Technology is the fulcrum of research and development in the country. Research needs to be translated into action which is possible only if right statistical model is available for simulation and inferences.
Numerous plenary sessions on contemporary and interdisciplinary issues unfolded during the day including “nm-Scaled Motion of Charge Carriers Probed by Microwaves” by Prof. Shu Seki, Osaka University, Japan; “New Developments in Organic Solar Cells: A Bright Future” by Prof. Suresh Chand-Chief Scientist, Head Physics of Energy Harvesting Division, Organic and Hybrid Solar Cell Group NPL, New Delhi; “Nature Inspired Optimization Techniques” by Prof. Kusum Deep- Department of Mathematics, Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee, India; “Simulation and its Application” by Prof. C B Gupta -Department of Mathematics, Birla Institute of Technology & Science, Pilani, Rajasthan, India and others.
