Amity University confers 2317 Degrees/ Diplomas on graduands during the first day of “9th Convocation 2013”

It was the much awaited and most cherished moment for 2,317 alumni of Amity University when they were conferred their Degrees and Diplomas during the first day of 9th Convocation at Amity University, Sector- 125 Noida.

 

Amity University has organized “Convocation 2013” for three consecutive days- December 5- 7, 2013 wherein a total of 7,126 successfully qualified Graduands of several Programs would receive their UG and PG Degrees, Diplomas, Trophies and Medals.

 

Graduands, accompanied by their family members and acquaintances, beamed with joy and exhilaration as they went down the memory lane, reminiscing college days while re-uniting with their friends, faculty members and Institution Heads. All the graduands donned beautiful black robes with caps and coloured scarves representing their different programmes.

 

The grandeur procession comprising of Trustees of the Board, Senior Members of the Management, Head of the Institutions, Departmental Heads and Senior Faculty members entered the Convocation Hall accompanied by the band of pipers humming the traditional celebration song, marking the commencement of the Grand event.

 

Mr. Atul Chauhan- Chancellor, Amity University Uttar Pradesh declared the 9th Convocation open.

 

Dr. Balvinder Shukla- Vice Chancellor, Amity University Uttar Pradesh  welcomed the august gathering, and presented a brief report of the University in which she touched upon the key achievements and initiatives that have been taken during the year 2012-2013 including new programmes launched in cutting edge technologies, breakthrough research work done by Scholars and Researchers, various research projects given to Amity by Department of Science and Technology and several ministries of Government, research papers presented by faculty members in National and International Conferences and Seminars and various other milestones achieved by Amity University.

 

Addressing the gathering and calling Amity alumni as Amity’s Amazing Achievers, Dr. Ashok K Chauhan- Founder President, Amity Group said that Amity alumni are empowered to change the country and the world. He stressed that Amity alumni are equipped with rich Indian culture and ethos which would help them to achieve anything in their lives. Dr. Chauhan, who himself believes in “Success by Compulsion”, called upon the Alumni to have an urge to achieve something in life, forge ahead with strong conviction, self confidence and faith in God, without getting perturbed by deterrents.

 

During the occasion, Dr. Ashok K Chauhan- Founder President, Amity Group and Mr. Atul Chauhan- Chancellor, Amity University felicitated Dr. V.M. Katoch, Secretary, Department of Health Research, Government of India and Director General, Indian Council of Medical Research with Honorary Doctorate Degree in Science (D.Sc.) for his exceptional vision, deep commitment to Research, propagation of Scientific Enquiry, continuous exemplary efforts in innovating and improving technology.

 

Dr. Sohani Verma-Obstetrician and Gynecologist, Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals, Delhi was conferred with Honorary Professorship at Amity Centre for Reproductive Biology for her lifelong pursuit of Scientific knowledge, commitment to Research, continuous efforts in improving technology and the highest degree of professionalism in the field of Obstetrics and Gynecology .

 

Accepting the Honorary Doctorate Degree, Dr. V.M. Katoch, Secretary, Department of Health Research, Government of India and Director General, Indian Council of Medical Research expressed his gratitude for the honor bestowed upon him. He commended Amity for its research and innovation initiatives and remarked that innovations should go beyond patent filing for the benefit of mankind and for making India a “Superpower”.

 

Accepting the Honorary Professorship at Amity Centre for Reproductive Biology, Dr. Sohani Verma-Obstetrician and Gynecologist, Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals, Delhi thanked Amity for acknowledging her contribution in the field of Obstetrics and Gynecology and expressed her desire to contribute wholeheartedly to Amity Centre for Reproductive Biology.

 

 A large number of awards and medals were given to the meritorious graduands for bringing laurels to the university through their work and for contributing to the cause of development of their respective Institutions. 27 students received “Best All Round Student Award”, 49 students were awarded gold medals, 44 Silver Medals, 31 Bronze Medals, 4 Corporate Awards and 39 Salvers.

 

During the convocation, Corporate Awards were presented to the best performers of the Institutes including “Jubiliant Organosys Entrepreneurial Excellence Award” was given to Abhinav Guptha from MBA- Marketing and Sales; “LG Potential Manager Award” was given to Ria Bhalla from Amity Business School; “Tata AIG Scholar of the Year Award” was given to Sankalp Prasoon from MBA- Insurance and Banking and “ Max New York Life Outstanding Student Award ” was given to Aditi Goel from MBA- Insurance and Banking.

 

Mr. Dheeraj Bhargava and Mr. Susheel Kr. Dubey- Faculty members from Amity Business School were awarded Phd. Degrees in Management

 

Subsequently, 9 Institutes -Amity Business School, Amity International Business School, Amity School of Business, Amity Institute of Competitive Intelligence and Strategic Management, Amity Global Business School and Amity School of Urban Management conducted Degree/ Diploma Distribution Ceremony at respective venues.

 

On the second day, a total of 2,399 graduands from Amity Institute of Physiotherapy, Amity School of Communications, Amity Institute of Education, Amity School of Fine Arts, Amity Law School and other institutes will receive their Degrees and Diplomas.

 

Dr. Anil Kakodkar- Eminent Nuclear Scientist and DAE Homi Bhabha -Chair Professor in Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) will be conferred with Honorary Doctorate Degree in Science (D.Sc.) during the Ceremony
