Amity University participates in FICCI Higher Education Summit 2013

Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) in association with Ministry of Human Resource Development and Planning Commission – Government of India organized two day FICCI Higher Education Summit 2013 on November 13-14, 2013 at FICCI Auditorium – New Delhi.

 

Amity University participated in the Summit wherein Dr. Ajit Nagpal, Chairman – Amity Pacific Forum addressed on the first day and Dr. W. Selvamurthy, President – Amity Science, Technology & Innovation Foundation deliberated on second day.  

 

Dr. Gurinder Singh, Addl. Group Vice Chancellor – Amity Group, Dr. Balvinder Shukla, Acting Vice Chancellor – Amity University, Dr. Alka Munjal, Director Academics  - Amity University, Dr. Sanjay Srivastava, Dean Faculty of Management Studies – Amity University, Dr. Ravi Prakash, Dean Faculty of Science, Engineering & Technology – Amity University, Dr. Abha Singh, Dean Faculty of Arts, Humanities, Journalism & Communication and Social Sciences, Dr. Nirupama Prakash, Director – Amity Institute of Social Science, Dr. Manoj Kulshreshta, Director – Amity Institute of Food Technology were also present during the two day Higher Education Summit.

 

FICCI Higher Education Summit 2013 was inaugurated by Dr. Shashi Tharoor, Minister of State, Ministry of Human Resource Development- Government of India, Ms. Naina Lal Kidwai, President – FICCI, Dr. A Didar Singh, Secretary General – FICCI, Mr. Mohan Das Pai, Chairman – FICI Higher Education Committee, Mr. K. Venkatramanan, CEO & MD – Larsen & Toubro Ltd.

 

Inaugural Session was followed by special address by Prof. Glyn Davis, Vice Chancellor – University of Melbourne. He emphasized on three type of education system prevalent in the world. European System, American System which influences global education system and British System which is followed by Commonwealth Countries including India and Australia. He said that Indian education system in transforming since last 6 decades and will mark its influence to the world just like IT sector in next few decades.

 

During the day a Panel Discussion was organized on the topic: Promoting Equity with Excellence – The 2030 model for Indian Higher Education in which Dr. Ajit Nagpal, Chairman – Amity Pacific Forum, Mr. Pawan Aggarwal, Advisor Higher Education – Planning Commission, Ms. Sushma Berlia, President – Appejay Stya & Svran Group, Dr Ashok Saxena, Vice Chancellor – Galgotia University, Prof. S Parasuraman, Director – TISS.

 

Dr. Ajit Nagpal, Chairman – Amity Pacific Forum during his address said that private sector is playing a pivotal role in expanding higher education in India. Amity Group in particular is actively involved in bridging the big gap that exists in demand for higher education. Amity University which is A Grade University aspires to be National and Global Leader in education, research and innovation.  Dr Nagpal added that Amity would be privilege to partner with FICCI to promote best education practices in the country.  

 

Mr. Pawan Aggarwal, Advisor Higher Education – Planning Commission said that for higher education scenario in India, focus is now shifting from institution wise development to sector wise development. Research has been considered of prime importance since last 2 decades only. Government of India is providing more funds for research in 12th Five Year Plan.
