Christ College Bangalore wins 3rd Amity International Moot Court Competition organised by Amity Law School Noida
Amity Law School, Noida organized 3rd Amity International Moot Court Competition from October 17- 19, 2013 at University Campus, Sector- 125, Noida to provide an experience of clinical legal education to budding lawyers and brace them for actual courtroom proceedings. For the first time, a team from Faculty of Law, Lagos State University, Nigeria participated in the Competition.
The theme of the Moot Competition this year was based on “International Commercial Arbitration, International Trade Law and Principles of conflict of Laws”. Eminent personalities and legal luminaries including Hon’ble Mr Justices Manmohan and Sunil Gaur of Delhi High Court adjudged advocacy skills of the participants during the various rounds of Amity International Moot Court Competition.
Welcoming the august gathering during the Valediction Ceremony, Maj. Gen. Nilendra Kumar, Director, Amity Law School, Noida said that Moot Court is one of the primary modes to inculcate in law students a capacity to think while on feet. Their knowledge of facts and law is tested by the bench of 3 or more judges drawn from amongst senior judges and leading counsels who are invited to assess the teams. Maj Kumar shared that over 36 teams from various Law Colleges and Institutes across India participated in the competition including National Law Schools of Orissa, Hyderabad, Jodhpur, Raipur, Gandhi Nagar, Lucknow, Ranchi, Patiala apart from Jamia, Nirma, Symbiosis (Pune & Noida) and IP Universities.
Addressing the budding lawyers, Mr. K V Viswanathan, Additional Solicitor General of India shared nuggets of wisdom from his hindsight of 26 years of practice. He advised the budding lawyers to have a thorough knowledge of Business Laws since, the clients prefer lawyers who know business. “No matter you choose to practice in Corporate or opt for litigation, knowledge of Chartered Accountancy or Company Secretariat will be an added advantage which will equip you with the emerging areas of business such as International Laws”, asserted Mr. Viswanathan. He called upon law students to manage their time well which will improve their concentration, focus and ensure better progress. Mr. Vishwanathan outlined the importance of physical fitness for lawyers and motivated them to contribute articles realted to their profession almost every month to any publication of their choice which will act as a silent advertisement of their skills. He urged students to retain their sense of humor and develop a taste for Art and Literature which would help them to punctuate their arguments with important quotes, wherever necessary. He congratulated all the students for participating in the Moot Court Competition and giving their best.
Sharing his views, Dr. Ashok K Chauhan- Founder President, Amity Group applauded all the teams which participated in Amity International Moot Court Competition and remarked that in order to become a successful lawyer it is essential for a student to know how to apply the law and to have awareness of the rules and the etiquettes of the Court. Moot Court Competitions, therefore, act as launching pad to successful careers in Law and all the Law students should enthusiastically participate in Moot Court Competitions.
The team from Faculty of Law, Lagos State University, Nigeria expressed their delight for having participated in Amity International Moot Court Competition and stressed that the Competition gave them a global exposure and provided them a golden opportunity to practice the court craft with global counterparts in India. They termed the overall experience of the Competition as very informative and enriching.
The team from Christ College, Bangalore lifted the Winners Trophy and Hidayatullah National Law University, Raipur lifted the Runners up Trophy. Best Researcher Award was given to Ms. Bhumika Palsania from GLC, Mumbai; Best Mooter Award was given to Ms. Prachasvi from Hidayatullah National Law University, Raipur and Best Memorial Award went to the team from NLU, Orissa.
