The competition puts high school students in the shoes of aerospace industry engineers, who are asked to design a city in space, conquering the problems inherent in designing a Space Settlement

In the competition, 16 teams from all over the world competed against each other. Each team comprised of 12 members. The teams were divided into different companies with 4 teams in each company. The Amity’s Spaceset team along with one Australian and 2 US teams were clubbed together and named Rockdonnell Aerospace Company (fictional Aerospace Company name).

All the competing teams were asked to design a settlement on the surface of Mars called “Argonom”, mimicking earth with a capacity to accommodate over 22,000 people in 2060. After 48 hours of rough and tiring work, the teams finally completed their projects and presented them to the jury members in the allotted 35 minutes. The eminent jury comprised of Ms. Anita Gale- Founder of the International Space Settlement Design Competition and famous engineers from NASA, who asked challenging and tough questions from the students about their project reports.

One of the team members of Amity Spaceset Team, Rishabh Tandon who aspires to become an Aeronautical engineer is of the view that competitions like International Space Settlement Design Competition are very beneficial and informative for the students as they provide hands on experience to the students. Students are expected to work with their counterparts from different parts of the world as a team which is quite challenging but at the same time adds on to their knowledge.
