Amity Institute of English Studies & Research organised lecture session in celebration of Leo Tolstoy Birthday on September 14, 2012
Ms. Tatyana Shipilova, Director - Russian Centre of Science & Culture Institute of Russian Language & Ms. Tatiana Perova, Head – Russian Language Teachers’ Training Centre, Capt. H. A. Arfi, IAS (Retd.), Director - Amity Institute of English Studies & Research inaugurated the event.
In his welcome address, Capt. H. A. Arfi, IAS (Retd.), Director - Amity Institute of English Studies & Research spoke about the earlier life of Leo Tolstoy and the initial problems, which he experienced and advantage of being from a wealthy Russian Gentry. His deep love for the poor and education for them prompted Tolstoy to start very early a school when he became a teacher himself. War & Peace and Anna Karenina were the most distinguished characteristics of his style of writing, his concepts in the writings and the expression of his concepts and thought through the characters of the novel which is basically a historical fiction but had also some chapters on philosophical discussions.
Ms. Tatyana Shipilova, Director – Russian Centre of Science & Culture Institute of Russian Language spoke at large about Leo Tolstoy and his work War & Peace.
