Women’s Day celebrated with great fervour in Amity University

International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the economic, political and social achievements of women in the past, present and future. The International Women’s Day, is an opportunity to focus on various issues concerning women. In a country like ours where society is marred by heinous crimes against women, including inequality, discrimination, rape, dowry deaths, female infanticide, etc., the International Women’s Day holds a special significance. Here in Amity University Women’s Day was celebrated with great fervour.

Amity Institute of Psychology & Allied Sciences and Amity Institute of Behavioural Health & Allied Sciences organized International Women’s Day at Amity on the international theme “Equal Rights, Equal opportunities- Progress for All”

Eminent speakers who shared their views with the distinguished gathering included Dr. (Mrs.)Balvinder Shukla, Pro. Vice Chancellor (Academics), Amity University, Uttar Pradesh, Prof. Abha Singh, Director, Amity Institute of Psychology & Allied Sciences, Prof. (Dr.) Madhulika Jha, Director, Amity Institute of English and Business Communication, Ms. Rupa Gupta, Senior Editor, Amity University Press and other senior officials of Amity University.

Dr. (Mrs.)Balvinder Shukla Pro. Vice Chancellor (Academics), Amity University, Uttar Pradesh while speaking on the topic, “Insightful Experience of Womanhood” said that we should not try to be equal but be compliment with our male counterparts in the society. Women need to be treated with respect, dignity and as a human being and then a mother, wife and a professional. Education has empowered the women in the society both in the rural as well as in the urban sector but there is much that needs to be done. If during upbringing stage women are treated equally with males then only society will treat them equally.

Prof. Abha Singh, Director, Amity Institute of Psychology & Allied Sciences spoke at length on the topic, “Saluting the spirit of Womenhood- Motivational Thoughts”.

Prof. (Dr.) Madhulika Jha, Director, Amity Institute of English and Business Communication by highlighting the theme of the occasion said that a woman in the family makes a difference. It’s a day worth celebrating and we all are waiting for the women’s bill to be passed. Women should be educated. It will help them take right decision and would get enlightened. She personally fells that both girls and boys should get education with especial attention to be given to the rural masses. Cooking and sewing should be introduced as a subject in the schools. So that the males should not feel ashamed of helping the females in doing the household chores. She said her message for the occasion is that women must not accept but challenge. A woman speaks volumes by remaining shy while the males are always given the opportunity to give sermons.

Students from various institutes of Amity University spoke on the theme, “Equality leads to prosperity”.
