Amity School of Fashion Technology organises Industry Interaction program “Expectations of the Fashion Industry from Young Professionals” for freshers
Fashion industry is rapidly growing industry which include apparel designing, jewelery, perfumes, bags and other accessories. To provide an overall experience of fashion industry and its expectation, Amity School of Fashion Technology organized an Industry Interaction program “Expectations of the Fashion Industry from Young Professionals” at Amity University Campus, Sector-125 Noida.
Mr. Manik Dhodi, Vice President – Hotels & Retail, Shipra World; Mr. Savio Nunes, Asst. Vice President – Operations, Lifestyle Retail; Mr. Rohit Arora, Regional Business Manager – Titan Watches; Mr. Umesh Chaudhary, HR Head – Ritu Wears Big Life shared their views of the subject.
Ms. Divya Chauhan, Chairperson – Amity School of Fashion Technology, Amity School of Fine Arts and Amity School of Performing Arts blessed the students.
Giving a glimpse of retail sector, Mr. Savio Nunes, Asst. Vice President – Operations, Lifestyle Retail said that in recent times in this sector many brands have opened and closed. Only those brands have survived which can offer something different and as per customer’s demand. Market has an appetite but it takes time to pick up which depends on product sale, pocket size of customer and right location, averred Mr. Nunes.
While addressing the budding designers, Mr. Rohit Arora, Regional Business Manager – Titan Watches said that one should have conviction and belief in oneself, than the tenure of job does not matter. Speaking about opportunities in jewellery and watch industry, Mr. Arora said that India is the second largest market for jewellery with market size of 30 billion dollars and largest consumer of Gold in the World. In India 850 tonnes of Gold is consumed every year. India accounts 90% market share of diamond industry. Jewelly business is highly seasonal and around 40% of sales happen during wedding season. Mr. Arora said that Indian watch industry began in 1961 with just one player HMT. Today the market size is 35 million dollar and the consumption is still low to 25 watches per 1000 persons.
Sharing the words of wisdom with the students, Mr. Manik Dhodi, Vice President – Hotels & Retail, Shipra World said that in this highly competitive world, one should need to give birth to creativity and think out of the box. Mr. Dhodi advised to have short term goals and gradually one should celebrate and enjoy the journey towards the success. While speaking on employment opportunities in fashion, Mr. Dhodi said that there no dearth of opportunities for talented youngsters, one can move to retail, merchandising, marketing, design, network expansion, supply chain segment etc.
Mr. Umesh Chaudhary, HR Head – Ritu Wears Big Life said that quality of talent coming these days is very good. Mr. Chaudhary raised caution that no matter how good are you or your work, you have to publicize it. Apart from hard work do smart work with honesty and integrity. Answering the query of the student regarding the remuneration paid in the fashion industry; Mr. Chaudhary said that ideally the salary of working professional should double in 4-5 years. If it does not happen than either you are not capable or your company is not worth. If the latter is the case than you should look for other opportunities.
