Over 400 underprivileged girl students of Amitasha undergo free “Health Check up” by Kailash Hospital at Amity

Amitasha (a philanthropic project of Amity aimed at providing free education to underprivileged girl children) in association with Kailash Hospital, Noida started a two day free “Medical Camp” for over 400 underprivileged girl students studying in Class Nursery to XII at Amity International School, Sector-44, Noida.

 

Dr. S S Kalsi-Family Physician, Kailash Healthcare Limited, Mrs. Renu Singh- Principal, Amity International School, Noida and Dr. Manorama Saxena- Head, Amitasha inaugurated the Camp.

 

During the Camp, a team of eminent Doctors from Kailash Hospital gave free medical check up to Amitasha students (underprivileged girl children) of Noida and Mayur Vihar Branches. The Check up also included screening of Height, Weight, Blood Pressure, Body Mass Index, Temperature, Dental Screening and Dietician tips.

 

Welcoming the team of doctors, Mrs. Renu Singh- Principal, Amity International School, Noida said that Amitasha is dedicated to overall development of the underprivileged girl students which includes best of education delivered in a conducive and healthy environment. She informed the gathering that Amitasha, is a brainchild of Dr. (Mrs.) Amita Chauhan- Chairperson, Amity International Schools, who is determined to empower these girls and assimilate them into the mainstream society. It is due to her persistent efforts that Amitasha girls are really doing well in their lives, contributing to the society in their own ways.

 

Sharing diet related important tips to the students, Dr. Meenu Khattar- General Physician, Kailash Healthcare Limited sand Adolescent Advice Expert aid that diet pyramid is inverted where the base and the most important component is fiber, then comes milk, milk products, eggs and meat and at the bottom of the pyramid lies fat and oil. She advised girls to consume plenty of fiber in the form of grains and vegetables which will boost their immunity and provide them essential vitamins. After Fiber comes Proteins in the hierarchy, which, if taken in adequate amount, ensures the wear and tear of the body and sound functioning of the heart. The bottom of the pyramid is of fat which is comparatively less required by the human body. She called upon the students to consume well balanced and iron rich diet to keep anemia at bay. She also gave hygiene related tips to the students

 

While diagnosing the students, Dr. S S Kalsi-Family Physician, Kailash Healthcare Limited shared that the female students coming from lower strata of society, in the absence of regular medical check ups and preventive knowledge about diseases and healthcare, tend to suffer from numerous ailments and diseases. He commended Amity for grooming the female students in such a way that they are well aware of personal hygiene and related issues and resultantly, they have not been diagnosed with any major or serious ailment. While conducting the Check up, he found that Amitasha students were more healthy and aware of hygiene compared to other children living in the same environment.

 

Dr. Anjali Singh- Dental Surgeon, Kailash Healthcare Limited and Dr. Parul –Dietician, Kailash Healthcare Limited also diagnosed Amitasha students during the Camp.

 

During the day, Dr. (Mrs.) Amita Chauhan- Chairperson, Amity International Schools visited the Camp, interacted with the Amitasha students and motivated them to adopt healthy lifestyle and eat nutritious food.

 

On July 9, 2013, 75 girls studying in Class Nursery to Class II of AMITASHA located in Amity International School, Mayur Vihar will undergo the free health screening under the Camp.

 

Amitasha is a project which started in the year 2000 by Dr. (Mrs.) Amita Chauhan, under Amity Humanity Foundation - the social renaissance engine of Amity. The project aims to ameliorate the condition of underprivileged girl children by educating them. Today, Amitasha runs 4 schools in Delhi & NCR where over 1000 girls in the age group of 3-18 years are educated with the best of facilities. Starting from Nursery, these girls remain with Amitasha till class XII under the able guidance of professionally qualified teachers and are provided with free meals, books, uniforms and health care facilities. Students who display extraordinary potential and interest are encouraged to study at Amity institutions of higher education.
