Department of Computer Science & Engineering, ASET organized Faculty Development Program on “Cloud Infrastructure Services” delivered by Mr. Kamal Aerukaluva, at Amity University, Noida
Department of Computer Science & Engineering, ASET, AUUP in Corporate Partnership with EMC Corporation and in association with Amity Academic Staff College organized a 5-Day Faculty Development Program, delivered by Mr. Kamal Aerukaluva, Sr. Technical Consultant, EMC Education Services from 24th to 28th June, 2013 at Amity University, Noida. The topic of the FDP was “Cloud Infrastructure Services” which benefited 30 participants from various institutes of Amity University Uttar Pradesh, Amity University Haryana, Amity University Rajasthan, Ansal University, Manipal University, Model Institute of Engineering & Technology, Manav Rachna University and BIT Meerut.
The welcome address and opening remarks was given by Ms. Abha Thakral Sachdev and FDP was introduced by Prof. (Dr.) Abhay Bansal, HoD(CSE) & Director, DIET, Amity University. Prof. (Dr.) K.M Soni, Dy. Director and Head, ASET, AUUP addressed the gathering by giving importance to emerging era of Cloud Computing, followed with address by Prof. (Dr.) VPS Arora, Dean Academics. Prof. (Dr.) Balvinder Shukla, Vice Chancellor (Actg.) AUUP, discussed about EMC Corporation, EMC Academic Alliance and Cloud Technology. Mr. Suresh Chandra Sharma, Dy. Director General, Ministry of Telecommunications & IT Government of India also addressed the gathering talking about latest technology used in Cloud Infrastructure, its architecture and services.
Mr. Kamal Aerukaluva started the FDP with an introduction to Overview of Cloud Infrastructure, on the first day. Then Journey to Cloud Started with its application to DBMS and discussed in detail about Classical Data Center. He elaborated the key requirements of a Data Center and components of a compute system. He also mentioned about the Storage, Storage Device Options such as RAID etc. in his talk. Communication Protocols i.e SCSI was discussed in detail.
On Day 2, he discussed high speed network of compute systems, FC SAN, its components, fibre channel fabric, port types and FC SAN addressing. IP SAN, FCoE and FCIP similar to FCSAN were also introduced with its latest technologies and protocol options. NAS and DAS were discussed and comparison was made to clear the difference. Backup and Recovery options were explained in detail in the latter half of the day.
On day 3, need for replication of data, its consequences and security issues were discussed. Virtualization and Virtualized data center was described in the first half. He explained various Virtual Machines, its components and the process to convert physical machine to VM. He also discussed the type of file system used to manage VM files, VM hardware and Console. Ballooning, a memory reclamation technique was described in detail with comparison to page sharing.
On Day 4, he described the storage in Virtualized Data Center, dynamic expansion of VMFS, Block Level and File Level Virtualization. In the latter half of the day, networking in virtualized data center, its components were discussed in detail. VLAN and VSAN were described in this session. He also talked about the management of traffic in network and showed desktop and application virtualization.
On Day 5, he overviewed Cloud Computing, Cloud Services and Deployment Models. He also explained Cloud Infrastructure and creation of its services. In later half, Security issues and threats related to Cloud and its mechanisms were discussed. Lastly, points to be considered to migrate to Cloud and phases to be adopted for the same were discussed.
Five-Day Faculty Development Program ended with interactive Q & A Session and Vote of Thanks by Ms. Abha Thakral Sachdev.
