Amity Human Values Quarter concludes at Amity University
Best of Western education combined with the best of Indian values, culture and sanskaars can produce “Super human beings”. In order to bring Amity students closer to human values of caring and sharing, selfless love and affection and make them principled and complete human beings, Amity University observes “Human Values Quarter” every year, concluding on the birthday of Dr. (Mrs.) Amita Chauhan- Chairperson, Amity International Schools.
Amity Human Values Quarter (AHVQ) commenced on January 28, 2013 and students from various Amity Institutions participated in 387 activities including Plays, Drama, Workshops, Lectures, Blood donation camps, Tree Plantation Drive, Teaching Underprivileged children, visits and donations to orphanages/old age homes/ blind schools etc. to spread around the importance of values in today’s world.
AHVQ concluded on April 29, 2013 amidst motley celebrations and a grand ceremony which witnessed students sharing their valuable experiences that they gained during the Quarter and felicitations of Dr. (Mrs.) Amita Chauhan by Head of Departments/ Institutions, Directors , faculty members and staff of Amity.
Addressing the gathering, Prof. R R Grover- Convener, AHVQ said that Amity gives special emphasis to human values and provides unique value based education to the students to make them socially responsible citizens of the country. Sharing the report of AHVQ, Prof. Grover said that over 5,000 students ,504 student coordinators and 102 faculty coordinators participated in 387 activities (most of which focused on women empowerment) planned during the quarter. Emphasizing on the funds which were collected, as part of AHVQ, for the benefit of over 1,000 underprivileged girl students studying under the project “AMITASHA”, Prof. Grover highlighted that over Rs. 4.5 lakhs have been raised through Amity Insurance Cup and individual contributions from Amity Institutions.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Ashok K Chauhan- Founder President, Amity Group reaffirmed the emphasis given to human values and Behavior Science in Amity. He stressed that Human values are an integral part of any society and they form the bed rock of Indian culture and practices. He expressed his delight over the fact that AHVQ is entirely driven by students with the support of faculty members, aiming to sensitize students towards the plight of vulnerable sections of society.
Expressing her joy and gaiety, Dr. (Mrs.) Amita Chauhan- Chairperson, Amity International Schools thanked everyone for giving a special meaning to her birthday. She applauded the students and faculty members for their overwhelming participation during AHVQ and hoped that AHVQ would continue to grow as Amitians would carry the values instilled in them to various parts of the country and globe.
Sharing his views, Mr. Aseem Chauhan- Additional President, Amity commended the involvement of students and faculty and their dedication to the cause of disseminating human values in the society. He emphasized that values are something which everyone speaks about but very few practice in real life. Values neither can be learnt through books nor they can be imposed; they are learnt in groups at home through role models. It is imperative to entwine the basics of human values into education in order to churn out humane and successful professionals who are globally sought after.
Sharing his learning and experience gained during AHVQ, Shubham Gupta- a student of Amity Law Centre, Part- II quoted, “try not to become a successful man but a man of values”. He thanked Amity on behalf of all the students of his institution who were given a golden opportunity to explore the various facets of humanity during various events, planned as part of AHVQ including Legal Literacy Camp, Visit to Juvenile Home/ Cow Shelter/Dog Shelter, Women related Campaigns, Face Painting Competitions, Poster Competition etc.
Expressing her gratitude, Pooja Bhattacharya, a student from Amity School of Insurance, Banking and Actuarial Sciences (ASIBAS) said that AHVQ gave students an opportunity to introspect and re-dedicate themselves to the cause of the society. Activities like debates on “Can Policing alone protect women”, “We have a democratic system but not values”, Distribution of clothes and books to needy, visit to Orphanage, Old Age Home provided them a platform to come out of the narrow domain of self centeredness to help underprivileged and needy.
