Mr. Alan Collett, President, RICS (Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors) visits Amity University along with RICS International Governing Council
It was a historic day for Amity when Mr. Alan Collett, President, RICS (Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors) visited Amity University, Noida along with a high powered delegation comprising of 60 eminent global members from International Governing Council of RICS.
During the occasion, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between RICS School of Built Environment, Amity University, and University of Salford (UK’s premier destination for built environment studies) to support mutual research, course development and student exchanges.
Keeping in view the skill shortage witnessed in Real Estate, Construction and Infrastructure Sector which is estimated at 80%, RICS - The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (the world’s leading professional qualification and standard setting body in land, property and construction sector) and Amity University (India’s leading research and innovation driven University) have established India’s first and only RICS School of Built Environment, Amity University at Noida Campus. Amity University has become the only university across the globe to offer professional and specialized programs in the area of Built Environment.Over the next decade, India would need nearly 4 million civil engineers, 396,000 architects and 119,000 planners on an average, some of which could be nurtured in RICS School of Built Environment, Amity University.
RICS School of Built Environment, Amity University will offer 3 years BBA in Real Estate and Urban Infrastructure, 2 years MBA in Real Estate and Urban Infrastructure and 2 years MBA in Construction Project Management from July 2013.
The School was officially launched by Shri Kamal Nath, Hon’ble Minister of Urban Development and Parliamentary Affairs during an International Conference of RICS in which he expressed his delight to inaugurate the commendable endeavor between Amity University and RICS and expressed his hope that the courses offered by the School would address the human skills shortage witnessed in the country. The Hon’ble Minister further added, “The RICS School of Built Environment, Amity University will enable quality and relevant education for young professionals. I also look forward to the School of Built Environment creating ‘next practices’ which in turn will lead to ‘best practices’ for the industry.”
Expressing his joy over the partnership between Amity and RICS, Mr. Alan Collett, President, RICS stressed that RICS School of Built Environment, Amity University is a unique landmark in the history of RICS which has till now worked with universities and higher education institutions dealing in built environment to just accredit them. This is for the first time that RICS has joined hands with a University to open a school of Built environment. He shared that the new model will develop and deliver world class education, training and research in the area of built environment. He remarked that built environment profession is the most important profession in every country, on which lies the strong foundation of the country’s economy. He assured that the graduates of the School would be much sought after in the industry and they will lead the emerging standards in Real Estate, Construction and Infrastructure sectors of the country.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Ashok K Chauhan-Founder President, Amity Group highlighted that education and training is evolving rapidly, making it imperative for educational institutions to develop a global outreach. He expressed his joy, on behalf of Amity fraternity, for entering into a new era with RICS which would bring about the much awaited changes in the field of land, property and construction. Dr. Chauhan announced Honorary Professorships for Mr. Sean Tompkins-Global CEO, RICS, Mr. Alan Collett, President, RICS and Mr. Ian Perry-Chairman, RICS Steering Group at Amity University to enlighten and enrich Amity students with the vast experience of the stalwarts.
Sharing his views, Mr. Sean Tompkins-Global CEO, RICS said that India is widely projected to be the world’s biggest economy by 2050 and India’s construction market is expected to be the world’s third largest by 2020, contributing along with real estate, 17.5%of GDP. The level of urban development is on a fast track in India. Through RICS School of Built Environment, Amity University and RICS are planting strong tree to support the built environment of the country. During the occasion, Mr. Tomkins announced that few scholarships will be awarded to the meritorious students who qualify for the course and need financial assistance to pursue the same. He also declared that every year, President of RICS will address the students of RICS School of Built Environment and meet them. He expressed his delight on behalf of RICS to have established an association with Amity University.
Mr. Ian Perry-Chairman, RICS Steering Group while sharing his views during the occasion, affirmed the employability of the students of RICS School of Built Environment, Amity University who will be trained as per the industry requirement. He shared that the curriculum of the School has been developed on the lines of global requirement and the partnership of RICS with International Universities and Colleges will further enrich the curriculum and delivery methods of the School.
