Dr. Krishan Lal, President- Indian National Science Academy delivers lecture during ASTIF lecture series at Amity University
Dr. Krishan Lal, President- Indian National Science Academy delivered a lecture on the topic “Role of Indian National Science Academy”. The special lecture was organized by Amity Science, Technology and Innovation Foundation under the ASTIF lecture series at Amity University, Sector-125.
Dr. Ashok K Chauhan, Founder President – Amity Group; Dr. D.V Singh, Visitor – Amity University; Dr. W. Selvamurthy, President – ASTIF were present during the lecture session.
Dr. Krishan Lal, during his lecture briefed the audience about the history and working of Indian National Science Academy (INSA) and said that INSA was established in 1935 with an aim to promote Science in India and to harness scientific knowledge amongst the fellow citizens. “Presently, INSA has 16 local chapters spread across the country with membership of 854 Indian fellows and 101 foreign fellows. INSA motivates young scientists by awarding medals to them. It also coordinates activities of Indian National Commission for History of Sciences. It discharges its responsibilities as the adhering organization in India to the International Council of Science. INSA regularly organizes lectures, seminars, panel discussions, workshops for promoting science and scientists”, shared Dr. Lal.
Dr. Lal apprised that INSA has linkages with major International organizations like South Asian Academy, International Council for Science, Global Network of Science Academies, G-Science Network etc. Dr. Lal briefed the audience that INSA has initiated new efforts for promoting science like organizing 100 popular lectures by INSA fellows in rural and remote areas of India; establishment of INSA Teacher’s Award for meritorious Science teachers and revival of links with Royal Society of London to name a few.
Dr. Ashok K Chauhan, Founder President – Amity Group called upon the young scientists and students to learn from the experiences of Dr. Krishan Lal and bring laurels to their country.
Scientists, faculty members from Amity Institute of Biotechnology, Amity Institute of Microbial Technology, Amity Institute of Nanotechnology and other Amity Institutions were present during the lecture session.
