Capt. H.A Arfi, Advisor AIESR and AICC delivers lecture on "“Industry – Academia Bridge: Channelising Collaborative Models" during World Education Summit

Capt. H.A Arfi, Advisor AIESR and AICC delivered lecture on the theme “Industry – Academia Bridge: Channelising Collaborative Models" during World Education Summit at Hotel Le Meridian, New Delhi on April 23, 2013.

The session was chaired by Ms. Shakila Shamsu, Ex-Joint Advisor – Education, Planning Commission, Govt. of India and now, OSD – Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India.

During his lecture Capt. Aarfi emphasised  on the point that instead of vocational training being a separate category in the education sector, it should be dove-tailed with primary and middle education so that not all but selected few are propped up for secondary and higher secondary education. Capt. Aarfi said that nation may gain by Right to Education where everybody up to the age of 14 will be entitled to free and compulsory education. The genesis of the problem is however, different. Even when it is free education, it will not  attract all for full primary education. Even if it is ensured that all get enrolled, more than 60-70% will drop out. This is so, because parents in the small cities would prefer their children to work in the laths machine nearby and bring Rs.50/ - at the end of the day to supplement the family income rather than to go for education. Therefore, education at primary and middle level needs to be dove-tailed with vocational training. So, education for all, adult literacy are slogans which are appropriate and reasonable at that level only. Dr. Aarfi further said that higher education cannot be a cup of tea for all. It has to be reserved for few who really deserve and have the potential to do the needful. Mushrooming growth of sub-standard Business Management Institutions and Science and Technology Institutions in almost every third lane of the city must be stopped There needs to be absolute coordination between the requirements of the ministry and the knowledge imparted by the educational institutions.

During the occasion, an exhibition was also held in which, large number of industries and Organizations from all over the country participated. Delegates from Delhi, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Bangalore Gurgaon, Chennai, Gandhinagar, NOIDA and Pondicherri participated in the event.
