Students of Amity international School, Mayur Vihar win award at Intel International Science and Engineering Fair at Arizona, USA

Two students of Amity international School, Mayur Vihar, Khanak Bhargava and Ishani Goomer of class XI did their country proud & bolstered its image by winning the Grand Third Award of thousand dollars at prestigious Intel International Science and Engineering Fair  held in Arizona, US. Their achievement is a reflection of the vision of Chairperson, Dr.(Mrs.)Amita Chauhan in guiding Amitians towards making name for themselves in International arena.

Their path breaking innovation of creating a prototype meter to identify artificially ripened fruits developed under the guidance of their principal, Ms. Sarita Aggarwal and  mentor teacher, Mrs. Shalu Pillai, along with their dedication and perseverance led to their winning a gold medal in the Initiative for Research and Innovation in Science (IRIS) fair held in November 2012.They were thus recruited to represent India along with six other teams in ISEF – International Science and Engineering Fair, a scientific extravaganza held in Arizona, US, organized by Intel and CII In collaboration with the esteemed department of Science and Technology, Government of India, which in short is the dream destination of every budding scientist.

Their exceptional project is designed to identify artificially ripened fruits which simply stated are adulterated fruits, particularly mangoes and bananas. It was tested and experimented upon over a stretch of a year in the extensive labs of Amity University.  It successfully defeated 2500 initial projects at the school level and then the 111 shortlisted for the national level before gleaming at the apex in its category.

These students competed with 1500 high school students from over 70 countries, regions, and territories in USA to showcase their independent research. The winning team of Ishani & Khanak got a rousing reception back home where they got to meet Mr. Rahul Gandhi, the General Secretary of AICC. These girls along with their parents also met the Chairperson, Dr.(Mrs.)Amita Chauhan who felt proud of these young scientists in making & congratulated them on their success & wished them luck for their future endeavours.
