Vice President Shri Hamid Ansari & Dr. Ashok K Chauhan, Founder President – Amity group release Book titled “Religion, Law & Society- Across the Globe”
It is rare a honour for any author when the writings are acknowledged and unveiled by eminent personalities such as the Hon’ble Vice President Hamid Ansari alongwith Dr. Ashok K Chauhan, Founder President – Amity Group of Institutions. The book titled “Religion, Law and Society – Across the Globe”; authored by Prof. Tahir Mahmood was released today at the Constitutional Club, New Delhi. The book release ceremony also commemorated Prof. Tahir Mahmood’s 50 years of Academic as well.
Referring to the author as an eminent scholar with an approach of reason and persuasion, Hon’ble Vice President, Shri Hamid Ansari called him an ambassador of true national integration and social justice. Addressing on the occasion, Vice President said that he has read the writings of Prof. Mahmood and found them very interesting. He said that this book is very useful for individuals and libraries and congratulated the author for such a valuable book.
While praising the works of author, Dr. Ashok K Chauhan, Founder President – Amity Group of Institutions said that in today's world, Religion and Law affect the Society in one way or another. In a secular country like India , where all religions are equally treated, the importance of law is much more to adhere communal harmony and to maintain a sense of discipline amongst all members of society. Dr. Chauhan further added that India always has held a respectable image in terms of secularism and it is the only country in the world where person believing in any religion can live and worship his religion without any fear.
Briefing the gathering about the newly released book, Prof. Tahir Mahmood said that this book offers insights into a wide variety of intricate and inter-connected issues of constitutional and socio-legal significance. Among the subjects covered are place of religion in political and legal systems of India and larger number of other countries, legal parameters of religious freedom, rights & problems of minorities, women’s legal status & rights, communal harmony to name a few.
Dr. Saif Mahmood, Advocate – Supreme Court of India, Dr. Manish Arora from Universal Law Publishing Co. Pvt. Ltd, Dr Mrs Amita Chauhan, Chairperson Amity Schools, Mr. Atul Chauhan, Chancellor – Amity University, Politicians, eminent Judges and senior lawyers, academicians were also present during the occasion.
Prof Tahir Mahmood, a veteran law professor, has chaired National Minorities Commission of India and served as a member of the National Human Rights Commission, Law Commission of India and the Ranganath Misra Commission. Presently he is Chairman of Amity Institute of Advanced Legal Studies – Amity University.
