Amity University organises MANFEX 2012 - National Conference on Manufacturing Excellence in Automation and Mechanical Engineering

The two day National Conference “MANFEX- 2012” by Amity School of Engineering and Technology kick started at the Amity Campus, Sector – 125, Noida.

MANFEX-2012 aims at providing a platform for industry, academia, research scholars and students for stimulating discussions and networking on various emerging trends, innovation, research results and new directions in the field of Manufacturing Excellence. MANFEX-2012 will cover various research paper / poster presentations, plenary sessions & concurrent technical sessions by lead speakers from the Industry as well as Academia.

The Conference was inaugurated by Mr. Rohtash Mal, Executive Director & CEO – Agri Machinery Group, Escorts, Mr. Vikram Sharma, CEO & Managing Director – Kobelcco Equipments, Mr. G.S. Sundaraman, AVP – Quality & Sustainability, JCB India Ltd, Dr. Balvinder Shukla, Pro-VC (A), Amity University Uttar Pradesh, Director General- ASET & Convener, MANFEX-2012.

Welcoming the august gathering, Dr. B. Shukla, Pro-VC (A), Amity University Uttar Pradesh, Convener, MANFEX-2012, DG ASET said, “manufacturing is the base and foundation of the Nation. The kind of disintegration required cannot be seen. Therefore, focus has to be given to quality of products that are manufactured which are cost effective. The objective of the conference is to make India dictate and command the service sector. MANFEX will bring lot of food for thought for the engineers. They can explore issues like logistic, global rules and regulations regarding manufacturing and automation.”

Sharing his views, Mr. Rohtash Mal, Executive Director & CEO – Agri Machinery Group, Escorts said that excellence is about exceeding yourself and constantly striving to move forward. Manufacturing is about smashing mind with the market barriers. Quality, Cost Management and People Management are the three main important issues for any manufacturing company. Mr. Mal added that India is fast emerging as a global manufacturing hub in automation, computer, textile, medicine, etc. Yet, there are certain bottlenecks which need to be removed like Primitive technology, poor infrastructure, over-staffed operations and lack of latest technology. The mantra for success is higher quality with lesser manpower in a most effective manner to be initiated. Input cost is also one of the challenges which can be overcome. Mr. Mal concluded that innovations and confidence help India to excel in this sector.

While speaking on the manufacturing sector, Mr. Vikram Sharma, CEO & Managing Director – Kobelcco Equipments said that the “Massive investment has been made during the post independence period in the manufacturing sector. The manufacturing sector comprised of 17 percent of total Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of India. Mr. Sharma said that the methods and technologies which we apply in manufacturing of the products have to meet the global demand. Technologies need to be embedded in such a manner that the global standards are met. We have to give our customer the best technology. At the same time the changing dynamics of market are also to be kept in mind. Nowadays products are launched globally. Therefore, the products are to be made with a global perspective, opined Mr. Sharma.

During the conference, the souvenir of MANFEX-2012 was released by Dr. B. Shukla, Pro-VC-(A), AUUP and other dignitaries of the occasion.

The inauguration was followed by a Plenary session on the theme “Global Business Environment: Key Drivers for Indian Manufacturing Sector for Global Competitiveness” by Mr. G.S. Sundaraman, AVP – Quality & Sustainability, JCB India Ltd, Mr. M. Thyagaraj, Advisor, ONGC, Mr. Sanjeev Thakar, General Manager, Maruti, Mr. Vivek Gupta, Asst. Manager, Tennecco Automotive.

During the day, Research Paper Presentation on the theme “Design and Development”, “Industrial & Operation Management”, “Thermal Science & Engineering and Renewable Energy” was also organized.

An Industry Award ceremony will take place during the event in recognition of those who have contributed to a great extent in the society with the innovative practices used in industry.
