Students from B.Tech (E&T), AITTM visits Cheshire Home

As a part of the Human Value Quarter 2012, 25 students along with two faculty members from B.Tech (E & T), AITTM, visited Cheshire home. Cheshire home, a home in the true sense for the disabled. It assists people with disabilities by providing the conditions necessary for their physical, mental and spiritual well being. Delhi Cheshire Home has 95 inmates.

The purpose of visit was to help and encourage the inmates there. The students had taken Old clothes and food items like fruits, sweets, biscuits etc for them. In the main hall the students had an opportunity to interact with them. The students sang with them, danced a little, spoke to some of them about their daily routine.

Within a short span of three hours, the inmates of Cheshire Home redefined the word “disability” for them. The students learnt that it is very easy to give up, but to hold it together when everyone else would understand if you fell apart, that is true strength and if you have that in you, the world is yours. Even “disability” has “ability” in it. All one needs is too see things in a positive way and not give up.

Krishna, an inmate was holding a radio then students requested him to sing and he sang beautifully. To motivate him the students were all clapping with him. Students even spoke to the doctors there about how all this happens and how they can be cured.

Later, the students visited the craft room, where they saw a lot of creative things made by them .All were amazed to see the intricacy of the work They truly have enormous potential and talent in them. Students have bought many of their products to keep the memories of this truly motivating and touching experience. Indeed, it was a great experience as all the students felt good after spending time with them and giving them moments of happiness.
