National Seminar on “Innovative Practices in Teacher Education: Implementation at the Classroom”
To abreast budding teachers withinnovative pedagogies in Teaching, Amity Institute of Education and AmityInstitute of Behavioural and Allied Sciences organized one day National Seminaron “Innovative Practices in Teacher Education: Implementation at the Classroom”at Amity University, Sector 125, Noida.
Welcoming the gathering, Prof. (Dr.) Alka Muddgal, HOI, Amity Institution of Education said that education, being asocial institution serving the needs of society, is indispensable for society to grow. She mentioned that education must evolve continuously to meet the challenges of fast changing and unpredictable globalized world. Dr. Mudgal apprised that the seminar intends to provide a platform to pre-service teachers to share their field experiences to deliberate upon the problems in teaching practices and subsequently, suggest innovative ways to optimize teaching-learning scenario in the versatile settings.
Prof. (Dr.) RanjanaBhatia, Director, Amity Institute of Education, Saket said that in present time,there is a mismatch between teaching styles of teachers and learning styles of students. In order to bridge the gap, the educational institutions need to consider implementing innovative teaching practices. She mentioned that innovative teaching is constructivist, social- constructivist and student centered process. Dr. Bhatia suggested that providing opportunities for active learning and stimulating learning interests could foster innovative teaching practices in the classroom.
Inaugurating the seminar, Padmashree Prof. J. S.Rajput, Former Director, National Council of Educational Research and Trainingsaid that quality of education largely depends upon the quality of teacher. Emphasizing on characteristics of a good teacher, he apprised that a good teacher continuously develops the communications skills, believes in nurturing teacher-pupil bondand helps pupils pursue a goal though upliftment of their efforts. He stressed that a teacher is always intellectually inclined and is a dedicated lifelong learner. Prof. Rajput opined that one should believe in the power of ideas,imagination and curiosity which leads to creativity. He averred that children require competent, committed and performing teachers and teachers should constantly appreciate the efforts of children as appreciation is inspiration and inspiration is motivation.
Addressing the gathering, Padmashree Ms. GeetaDharmarajan, Executive Director of Katha- Non Profit Organization said that it is important for teaching pedagogy to be innovative and creative to provide in depth learning to future generations. He remarked that children should not be treated as empty vessels who need to be filled with knowledge. They have their own wisdom which should be respected. Sharing the alarming statistics,she apprised that there are 150 million children out of 300 million children, enrolled in class I to XII, cannot read properly and 37% of non-literate adults globally are from India and specifically from rural India. She called upon the budding teachers to focus on teaching and nurturing the children of rural areas rather than imparting knowledge just to students of urban areas.

The seminar was attended by more than 300 budding teachers across globe including Wuhan University of Technology, China; Delhi University, Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, Indian Institute of Technology, Patna, Manav RachnaUniversity, Noida International University and Chaudhary Charan SinghUniversity amongst others.
