Workshop on ‘Young Athlete Impact Evaluation Project’

Amity School of Physical Education& Sports Sciences (ASPESS) and Amity Institute of Rehabilitation Sciences(AIRS) jointly organized a Workshop on ‘Young Athlete Impact EvaluationProject’ at Amity University Noida campus.

Welcomingthe gathering, Prof. (Dr.) KalpanaSharma, Director ASPESS briefed about Young Athletes Research Programme andsaid that Young Athletes is an innovative sports/play program designed tointroduce children with intellectual disabilities to the world of sports at anearly age. She shared that since the inception of the Young Athletes programsin several countries, there has been a constant examining of programme and theresearch provides a comprehensive, global look at the program and evaluation ofits effectiveness. Dr. Sharma apprised the findings and recommendations in thereport are helpful for improving the program further.

Briefingabout the Young Special Program, Mr.VictorVyas said that Young Athletes started as a program but now is a movementwherein sports is used as a catalyst to transform the lives of people withintellectual disability. He further added the objective of the program is topromote acceptance, respect, recognition and inclusion in our society. Heapprised that unfortunately, the children with Intellectual Disability lackaccess to effective early development opportunities during the most criticalperiod of life. Thereby, this program help children to develop motor, socialand cognitive skills.
