Two weeks Short Term Refresher Training Course on “Application of Metagenomic Tools for Bioremediation towards Environmental Restoration” commences at Amity University

Amity Institute of Biotechnology(AIB) in association with Amity Academic Staff College (AASC) started two weeksDBT Sponsored Short Term Refresher Training Course on “Application ofMetagenomic Tools for Bioremediation towards Environmental Restoration” atUniversity Campus, Sector 125 Noida.

Theworkshop is designed to train mid-career Scientists and UG & PG Faculty onthe advanced level courses and to abreast them with practical aspects ofbiotechnology related research techniques encompassing metagenomics andmeta-data analysis.

Welcomingthe guests, Prof. (Dr.) ChanderdeepTandon, Director, Amity Institute of Biotechnology said that the coursewill provide lab based hands-on training in research techniques to the participantswho can subsequently apply them in their research or teaching programme. Heshared that the course will further enhance the understanding of the BioinformaticsData analysis which is aligned with the experimental work to weave the completeframework of the workshop’s theme.

Prof. (Dr.) Balvinder Shukla, Vice Chancellor,Amity University Uttar Pradesh said that now-a-days, anapplication of one discipline is used in another to reach the outcome of a problem. She opined that Scientists and Researchers should conduct interdisciplinaryresearch to reach for a common and holistic solution. Dr. Shukla apprised that   the twoweek training course will help the participants in development of new skillsand learning of new technologies.

Addressingthe gathering Dr. Mohd. Aslam, Advisor,Department of Biotechnology (DBT); Ministry of Science & Technology apprisedabout usage of metagenomic tools for Bioremediation and its relevance intoday's scenario. He said that Metagenomics is a very strong tool for characterizationof bacterial diversity and initially, the technique was opposed but now itsimportance has been realized to strategiz the right approach.

Duringthe occasion, Dr.G.P.S. Raghava (Head,Computational Biology, IIIT, Delhi) shared the importance of Next GenSequencing technologies as well as in silicon techniques and tools.

Thetraining course consists 14 hours of lectures and 70 hours of practicaltraining in Metagenomic tools, PCR and Expression cloning. Lectures on Advancedtopics will be delivered by highly experienced scientists from IIT, JNU andDelhi University along with Internationally Trained Faculty and Instructors ofAmity Institute of Biotechnology.
