Amity Institute of Psychology & AlliedSciences (AIPS), Amity University, Noida celebrated “World Mental Health Day”on the theme "Mental Health at Work Place" at University Campus,Sector-125, Noida.
Welcoming the distinguished gathering, Prof. (Dr.) AbhaSingh- Dean Faculty of Arts, Humanities, Journalismand Communication & Social Sciences and Director, AIPSstated that the eventemphasizes the importance of "Happy Mind leading to Healthy WorkPlace". She remarked that anxiety and stress have become part ofeveryone's life and WHO has indicated that depression would be the next silentkiller by 2030. She called upon everyone to take care of their mental healthalong with physical health which leads to holistic health. She stressed thatPositivity is a great strength and courage of the mind which keeps the bodyhealthy.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Puneet Gupta-Sr. MedicalOncologist, Apollo IndraprasthaHospital, Delhi talked about Industrialand Organizational Psychologists (IOP) and their important contribution in theCorporate. He shared that IOP appreciate and acknowledge individualdifferences; they move from “I” to “We” and look at group or team capabilities.He stressed that in an organization, the priorities of the management may notbe congruent with the needs of the workers. He stressed that a Professional IOPworks as a marriage maker between management and workers thereby, promotingoverall organizational wellness.
Mr. Vikram Dutt-Senior Professor andConsultant, NGOs administered a self-written oath to over 1500 students andfaculty members which called upon the students to look within themselves to understandtheir inner self and appreciate what they are and to spread along joy, love andmental health in self, society and world.
Mr. Masarrat A Shah- Business Associate, IBM spoke about immenselevel of stress at the work place and remarked that ambulances are must inevery organization since distressed employees can collapse any moment. Heemphasized upon the importance of positive thoughts and stressed that humanbeings become what they think. He suggested that human beings should havepositive relationships in life to have overall healthy life.
Sharing her views, Ms. Vanchha Garg- HR, Zee News statedthat with stringent deadlines and stressful work environment,employees are becoming mechanical day by day, therefore, it is important tounderstand the importance of mental health and its impact on the productivityof the employees. She remarked that Corporates, in their race to become thebest, put lot of pressure on employees to meet the deadlines, withoutconsidering the caliber of the employees. She suggested that it is important tounderstand and empathize with employees, invest in them, provide them good workculture with appreciation and work- life balance.
The Panel discussion was followed by aWorkshop on “Managing Stress Trauma & Health Challenges” by Ms.Susan & Mr. Harvey Skinner- Founding Dean of the Faculty of Health at YorkUniversity in which they taught various meditation techniques forbuilding the capacity of mind to be immune to negative thoughts includingMindful Meditation and Switching
