Industry experts deliberate during ‘Amity Telecom Vision Board Meeting’
Keepingin view the ever changing market dynamics and the constant need to update andfine-tune the curriculum as per industry needs, Amity Institute of TelecomEngineering and Management organized ‘Amity Telecom Vision Board Meeting’ on 6thOctober 2017 at Amity University, Noida.
Eminentindustry leaders from Telecom & IT industry attended the meetingwhich included Mr. Rajan S Mathews, Director General, COAI, Mr. Pankaj Mohindroo, President, Indian Cellular Association; Mr. DineshVerma, MD, Junipar Networks Ltd; Lt Gen S P Kochhar, CEO, TSSC; Mr. P Balaji,Director Regulatory & CSR, Vodafone, Air Commodore S Motial, Former CMD,ITI& MD & CEO ELCOM, Mr. TR Dua, Director General, TAIPA, Mr. AmitMarwaha, Head End to End Solutions Sales, Nokia Networks; Mr. Karan Kalra,Transformation Head and Head Entertainment & Media, PwC; Mr. Vikas Sehgal,Head Sales India Public, Sterlite Technology Ltd. Lt Gen PD Bhargava- Advisor, Amity Institute of TelecomEngineering and Management welcomed the industryguests and shared progress of last vision board meeting which included“Training Course to address the trained manpower requirement of handsetmanufacturing and the PCB design sector”, “Training of students on the use ofrenewable energy technologies”, Industry Training for students during last oneyear to acquire necessary on the job skills” and “Setting up of Centersof Excellence and introduction of Vocational Programmes”. He highlighted theprogress made on several recommendations made by Industry leaders during lastBoard Meeting.
TheIndustry leaders gave vision of future scenario in their respective domains andshared the industry expectations from the budding Telecom engineers.
Lt Gen S P Kochhar,CEO, TSSC, while giving his presentation, statedthat today Telecom industry has seen a convergence of Telecom with IT and therehas been an exponential growth of data driving the Telecom Networks. He sharedthat in next 2-5 years, there will be huge demand for Engineers in the area ofstoring and analysis of the Data which include Data Analytics, Internet ofThings, Mobile Applications, Robotics, Machine Learning and ArtificialIntelligence. He called upon the Institute to nurture skilled and employablestudents in the upcoming areas of employment in Telecom Sector.
While giving hissuggestions, Mr. Vikas Sehgal, Head Sales India Public, SterliteTechnology Ltd. stated that a module on “Emerging Technologies” shouldbe introduced” in 6th semester to the Telecom students sinceTechnology is ever evolving and students need to keep themselves abreast withthe latest technologies. He stressed that the curriculum of the module shouldcut across the entire Telecom field. He also suggested including a module onSoft Skills from II Semester onwards which will act as a stepping stone forstudents to enter the Telecom industry.
Mr.Anil Gupta, Regional Director, Indus Towers Ltdstatedthat the designing of mobile towers presently has undergone a sea change; ithas become more of innovation and design task. He recommended the Institute tostart up a course focusing on inculcating the skills of innovation and designamongst the students.
Mr.Anurag Sharma, Head- Large Deals & Strategy,Enterprises Business, Tech Mahindra suggested that the Institute must re-inforce entrepreneurshipamongst the students. He shared that most of the startups, now-a days, aresoftware driven which should be extended to product and hardware driven start–ups. He pressed upon the need for introducing “Hardware Product development”to the students. He averred that students should be encouraged to pursue basicfundamental research and develop new products on their own. He suggested thatthe Institute should inculcate the culture of continuous learning amongst thestudents, in the absence of which they may become obsolete in the long run. Hesuggested that Institute to motivate students to focus on sustainability in allaspects whether they are products, solutions and environment.
Mr. Rajan SMathews summoned up future vision of IT &Telecom Industry. He also gave industry prospective.
Prof RKKapur discussed the modalities of jointworking between Academia & Industry.
Dr(Prof)Gurinder Singh- Group Vice Chancellor, Amity University shared his thoughts on the important suggestions extended by theindustry leaders and assured them that Amity will implement them very soon.
