“21st century graduates need to focus on experiential leaning, emerging technologies and application of knowledge”, stresses Prof. Brian- President, , Dublin City University (DCU), Ireland at Amity

A high profile Delegation comprising of Professor Brian Mac Craith, President and Mr. Trevor Holmes, Vice President, External Affairs, Dublin City University (DCU), Ireland visited Amity University to explore the areas of potential collaborations for mutual benefits.

During the visit, Prof. Brian Mac Craith, President, DCU delivered a lecture on “Graduate Skills for the 21st Century” for the students of Amity.

Apprising students with DCU, Prof. Brian highlighted the strong relationship shared between Ireland and India and outlined that DCU is looking for knowledge exchange with universities and enterprises in India. Prof. Brian briefed that DCU started in1980 with just 200 students and at present, it has over 16,900 students studying on campus. He shared that DCU is a research intensive, globally engaged University of enterprise, distinguished by the quality and impact of its graduates.

Delivering the lecture, Prof. Brian stated that 21^st century is digital, connected,globalized and knowledge society. He shared that 91 % of millenials (born between 1977-1997) are expected to stay in job for less than 3 years due to Artificial Intelligence, Big Data and Internet of Things. He averred that in 21^stcentury, as also corroborated by 500 CEOs worldwide during World Economic Forum- DAVOS, a graduate is expected to be creative, enterprising, effective communicator, solution oriented, globally engaged, active leader, adaptability to change and committed to continuous learning. He stressed that a graduate needs to have thorough knowledge about the subject he studies and an ability to apply that knowledge across all situations, coupled with the awareness of technology and its impact and experiential learning.

Prof.Brian outlined several innovative ways through which DCU ensures the employability of their students in 21^st century including DICE-Digital Innovation Creativity Enterprise, Promoting student entrepreneurship and Industry- Academic National Research Centers. He stressed that Sports are important for inculcating important attributes that are taught in classrooms and shared various sports related activities which are promoted in DCU for all round development of the students.

The members of the Delegation interacted with the senior officials of Amity including Dr. W. Selvamurthy, President, Amity Science Technology and Innovation Foundation, Prof. (Col) RK Dargan, Advisor, Amity School of Communications, Prof. (Dr.) Abhay Bansal, Jt. Head, Amity School of Engineering and Technology and Dr. Shefali Raizada, Addl. Director., Amity Law School and discussed the options for potential collaboration in the area of Student and Staff mobility, Research , India Immersion Programs, Study Abroad Programs and Joint Consulting & Projects.
