Chanakya National Law University, Patna lifts trophy of 6th Amity International Moot Court Competition
Amity Law School Noida organized 6th Amity International Moot Court Competition on International Humanitarian Law which concluded today with Valediction Ceremony. The winner’s trophy was lifted by Chanakya National Law University, Patna.
This year’s moot problem was designed on established principles of International Humanitarian Law, which provided participants a panorama of unconventional and extraordinary legal issues to delve upon.
Taking forward last year's initiative of paperless competition, it was again an e-moot court competition and the participants invoked the jurisdiction of the Pre-Trial Chamber instead of conventional jurisdiction of Trial Chamber .
The valediction was graced by Hon'ble Mr. Justice R.K. Agrawal, Judge,Supreme Court of India; Hon’ble Thiru. Justice T. Mathivanan,Judge, Madras High Court; Hon’bleMr. Justice Vibhu Bakhru, Judge, Delhi High Court; Ms. Pinky Anand, Senior Advocate and Additional Solicitor General of India; Shri Prashant Kumar, President LAWASIA; Shri Sharad Vaid, Partner, Khaitan & Co and Dr. Ashok K Chauhan, Founder President, Amity Group.
Welcoming the guests, Dr. Ashok K Chauhan applauded the hard work of participants and remarked that in order to become a successful lawyer it is essential for a student to know how to apply the law and to have awareness of the rules and etiquette of the Court. He stressed that Moot Court is one of the primary modes to inculcate amongst law students a capacity to think while on feet.
Addressing the august gathering, Hon’ble Thiru. Justice T. Mathivanan said that moot competitions provide a platform to budding legal professionals to gain valuable experience and training in written and oral appellate advocacy. He opined that in current global competitive era, legal profession demands more than just memorizing the laws through books but holistic development of legal intellect. Justice Mathivanan advised the students to focus and learn more about general law and court judgement.
Sharing his views, Hon'ble Mr. Justice R.K. Agrawal said that it is important for aspiring legal professionals to polish their knowledge and competency on legal research, analysis, writing and oral advocacy skills that are valuable in a wide range of practice areas and make competitors more marketable to legal employers. He stressed that learning is a continuous process; no matter if an individual is at the supreme position of any profession, there is still something new to learn every day.
Lauding the efforts of Amity in organizing the E-Moot Court, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Vibhu Bakhru, Judge, Delhi High Court said that the present scenario demands quicker justice which is possible through e courts. He mentioned that realizing the importance of digitization, Delhi High Court have established 12 paperless or e courts. Justice Bakhru averred that in coming times, people would be able to file petitions online and the legal process will have files on computers rather than paper files. He stressed that e- courts is a great initiative towards green environment.
The competition witnessed the participation of 37 teams across globe including Symbiosis Law School, Pune; VM Salgaocar College of Law, Goa; School of Law,Christ University; National Law Institute University, Bhopal; Campus Law College, DU; Bishop Cotton Women’s Christian Law College and Nepal Law Campus,Pradarshani Marg amongst others.
Presenting superlative legal skills, Mr. Shubham GNLU bagged the award for “Best Researcher”; the award for “Best Counsel” was presented to Ms. Drishti Baral, SVKMNMIMS and Mr. Bhavik, National Law Institute University, Bhopal won the trophy of “Best Memorial”. The team from National Law Institute University, Bhopal was declared the First Runner Up.
