Amity Law School, Centre- II organized 3rd Amity National Mediation- Arbitration Competition, 2016

India needs Mediation Laws, opine experts during Valediction Ceremony

 

Amity Law School, Centre- II organized 3rd Amity National Mediation- Arbitration Competition, 2016  at Amity Campus, Sector-125, Noida wherein 26 teams from Law Colleges and Institutes across the country including National Law University Odisha, Dr. Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University, Lucknow and others.

The Competition was based on Law domains related to Torts, Contracts, Consumer Laws, IPR, Family Law and Service Matters

The Team from Amity Law School Noida emerged as Winners and was given a Cash Prize ofRs. 15,000 along with a Trophy. University Institute of Law and Legal Studies,Punjab University was declared First Runners up and was awarded Rs 10,000 along with a Trophy. The team from Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University,Lucknow emerged as Second Runners up and were felicitated with a cash prize ofRs. 5, 000 along with a Trophy.

Hon’ble Minister Shahid Manzoor, Cabinet Minister, Government of Uttar Pradesh; Shri Salamat Ullah, Director, New India Assurance Company and Mr. Rahul Sinha-Senior Journalist graced the Valediction Ceremony and awarded the winners.

Also present during the occasion were Maj.Gen K J Singh- Chief Advisor, Amity Universities, Dr. B Shukla- Vice Chancellor, Amity University Uttar Pradesh, Dr. D K Bandyopadhyay- Acting Chairman, Amity Law School, Dr. W Selvamurthy – President, Amity ScienceTechnology and Innovation Foundation, Lt. Gen P D Bhargava- Group Deputy Vice Chancellor, Amity and other senior Directors/ HoDs of Amity.

Welcoming the guests, Dr. Aditya Tomer, Director, Amity Law School Centre – II shared that Med- Arb competition  aims at developing the analytical skills of legal education students with respect to mediation and arbitration. He apprised that the competition brought together doyens of legal fraternity and students on a common platform to interact and discuss upon the nuances of Mediation and Arbitration as alternative ways of grievance redressal.

Addressing the students and talking about ways to generate more employment in UttarPradesh , Hon’ble Minister Shahid Manzoor, Cabinet Minister, Government of Uttar Pradesh said that there is a dire need to encourage and promote self employment and small scale enterprises in the State, which will immensely add to the employment opportunities in the State.

He stressed that Private Institutions have been contributing a lot in the development of the State and country and they have been supporting the efforts of Governments in making various sectors self sufficient including Health and Education. He congratulated the Founder of Amity University for the noble service he has been doing for the country through transforming the Education Sector across the country. He advised students that Degree is not end all; what matters is the values and ethics that a Degree brings along. He implored the students to think beyond Degrees and be responsible towards their own selves,their parents, society and country.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Salamat Ullah congratulated the students of Amity for successfully organizing the competition He stressed that there are many educational Institutions in India but very few of them offers quality education and he commended Amity to be one of those few institutions which are dedicated to the cause of education. Shri Ullah emphasized that in today’s fast moving world, everyone faces time constraint and litigation involves wastage of time,money and resources. He stressed that though Arbitration Law exists in the country but not Mediation Law and called upon the dire need to frame Mediation laws in the country since mediation would obviate the problems which confront litigation in India. He further added that Mediators need to be fair and unbiased and must listen to both the parties for coming out with an amicable solution. He apprised that Mediation saves lot of time, effort and money which can help courts and police to use the saved time in other productive areas rather than remaining occupied in resolving the years long cases. Shri Ullaha dvised the students to step into the legal profession with utmost dedication and honesty, without forsaking values and ethics at any point in life.

Highlighting India’s legal scenario, Mr. Rahul Sinha said that there are various laws in India which are outdated and obsolete, which require thorough revision. He mentioned that over the years , various professions have become important for the people practicing them and but emotions and service towards fellow beings have taken a backseat. Mr. Sinha emphasized that new generation of professionals have to lead the change and bring about the transformation in the country.
