“GT Award Ceremony 2014-15” organised by The Global Times
The Global Times, Amity’s youth newspaper, organizedits annual “GT Award Ceremony 2014-15”, marking the culmination of year long Newspaper Making Contest wherein studentsfrom eight Amity International Schools prepared one issue of The Global Timeseach throughout the academic session 2014-15.
The Contest is one of the most futuristicefforts of Dr (Mrs) Amita Chauhan, Chairperson Amity Group of Schools that aimsto empower the youth towards nation building. Studentsfrom Amity International Schools located in Noida, Mayur Vihar, Vasundhara,Pushp Vihar, Saket and Gurgaon , with the help and support of their teachers,successfully brought out one issue each of Global Times Newspaper. Right fromconceptualizing the stories to Graphics, Illustrations, Photography, Editingetc. was undertaken by students which brought out their innate talents andskills.
During the sixth Annual Awards Ceremony, the buddingjournalists from Amity International Schools and Amity University werefelicitated for their journalistic knack at Amity Campus, Sector-125, Noida.
The coveted "Best Newspaper Trophy" was lifted byAmity International School, Sector-46, Gurgaon, Amity International School,Saket bagged First Runners up Trophy, followed by a tie between AmityInternational School, Sector-43 Gurgaon and Amity School, Sector-6, Vasundhara.
The Ceremony was graced by Ms SoumyaMukerji, Senior Assistant Editor, Hindustan Times, Ms Anita Singh,Consultant Newspaper Design and Print Media and Ms Anjana Kashyap, Editor, AajTak
Welcoming the distinguished guests and students, Ms. Vira Sharma -Managing Editor, TheGlobal Times said that a good newspaper is a watchdog and mirror of society,teaches good values and helps in reforming the society and Global Times is oneof such good newspapers. She highlighted that the journey of Global Timesstarted in 2007 with an aim to empower the students and create awarenessamongst them to become responsible citizens of the society. She shared thedetails of the year long Contest and how students from various Amity Schoolsadded a sense of uniqueness to every edition.
Addressing the students, Ms Soumya Mukerji, who alsojudged the Contest, appreciated the creative spark and love for journalismdisplayed by the young students. She remarked that all the students didstupendously well, making it very difficult to select the best. She encouragedthe students to keep the love for journalism alive in their hearts since all ofthem have potential to become great journalists in the future.
Dr. (Mrs.) AmitaChauhan, Chairperson, Amity Group of Schools expressed joy and pride that The Global Times has touchednew heights and is at par with the National Dailies. She expressed that GlobalTimes have groomed the students in such a way that they can voice their opinionon any platform with great poise and confidence. She thanked all the guests whotook out time from their busy schedules to mentor the budding journalists fromAmity.
Ms Anita Singh, while sharing her views on designing of Newspapers, saidthat Design has no language just like music; an expert newspaper designer couldeasily design a newspaper in any language. She apprised students that knowledgeof visual Journalism is very important for understanding designing ofnewspapers and Graphics have become very important part of the stories since,now-a days people don’t have time to go through big stories and graphics areself-explanatory.
Ms. Anjana Kashyap highlightedthe power of Hindi language vis a vis English and shared how effective Hindilanguage is when it comes to commutating with the masses. She encouraged thestudents to read newspapers and watch news to be aware of what is happeningaround, which will stand them in good stead in every profession and field.
The participants were felicitated with trophies andcertificates in Individual and School categories viz Outstanding Story,Fictional Story, Best Editing, Best Headline, Best Graphics, Photography,Illustration, Collage, Educational poster design, Best Ground Reporting and GTBest Newspaper Award
