Prof. (Dr.) Edmund Weber, University of Frankfurt, Germany conferred with Honorary Doctorate Degree in Philosophy at Amity University

Amity University organized a special convocation to confer the award of Honorary Doctorate Degree upon Prof. (Dr.) Edmund Weber, from University of Frankfurt,Germany at University Campus, Noida.

The convocation began with a ceremonial procession, led by the entry of venerated members of the management including Dr.Ashok K Chauhan- Founder President, Amity Group, Dr.(Mrs.) Balvinder Shukla, Vice Chancellor, Amity University Uttar Pradesh and Dr. Gurinder Singh, Additional Group Vice Chancellor, Amity who walked the aisle wearing impressive ceremonious gowns.

Prof.(Dr.) Balvinder Shukla, Vice Chancellor, Amity University Uttar Pradesh declared the “Special Convocation” open.

While conferring the degree Dr.Ashok K Chauhan commended Dr.Weber for his research and immense knowledge on eastern cultures and religions.He called upon the educationists to introduce competency based education program for which Amity and Germany will also work together.  He added that competency based education system has potential to revolutionize higher education by personalizing student learning while balancing work and education.Stressing on the importance of skill development, Dr. Chauhan said that the development of a nation is only through skill development since behind every successful goal achievement comes proper skills development.

During the occasion, Prof. (Dr.) Edmund Weber was conferred with Honorary Doctorate Degree in Philosophy for his continuous exemplary efforts in promoting India’s place of prominence in World Culture and Society through his visionary approach to the study of interfaith relations.

Accepting the degree, Prof. (Dr.) Edmund Weber expressed his gratitude to receive the Doctorate Honoris Causa from Amity University. Sharing the storyabout his relations with India, he said that in earlier years, people believed that Hinduism, Buddhism and Islam will vanish very soon and his guru, as a partof his research, visited countries like India and Japan to discover the reality of the religions. He added that he found that the preaching of the religions are strong in the eastern land and inspired him to write a book on “The Return of Buddha” which opened the eyes of the people towards the reality of eastern religions. He apprised that these religions are working very hard towards solving the problems of basic existence of life. Dr. Weber praised Dr. Ashok Chauhan for his charitable work and said that the most relevant charity in India is Scientific Education as it promotes progress of an individual and Nation at large. He suggested Amity to start courses on the work of Hinduism,Buddhism and Islam and to develop inter-cultural and inter-religious learning.He thanked Amity for bestowing the honor of honoris causa degree.

During the occasion, Prof. (Dr.) Ajit Singh Sikand, Consultant to German Central and State Governments on Indian issues, Mrs. Weber, Senior Officials and HOIs of Amity University.
