Amity announces “Nepal Humanity Fund” to provide relief and solace to the affected people in Nepal

“Amity Human Values Year (AHVY)” concluded today at University Campus, Sector-125, Noida with the announcement of “Amity Nepal Humanity Fund” by Dr. Ashok K Chauhan- Founder President, Amity Group who himself contributed Rs. 5 lakhs towards the Fund immediately. Faculty members and other employees also came forward for the noble cause and wholeheartedly agreed to donate a part of their monthly salary to the Fund.

Dr. Chauhan announced that due arrangements would be made for sending few students and faculty members to Nepal so that they can personally provide relief and solace to the affected ones in Nepal.

Few Amity students are already collecting relief material which would be sent to Nepalese Embassy and NGOs working towards the cause.

During the occasion, one minute silence was observed by everyone present in the hall , praying God for prevailing peace in Nepal.

Year 2014-15 was declared as “Amity Human Values Year (AHVY)” in Amity University in order to fulfill the vision of Dr. Ashok K Chauhan to make all Amitians not just competent professionals but also good human beings. During the year, students from various Institutions organized “Human Values” related activities, thereby making a positive social impact in the society.

The “Valedictory Ceremony” of these noble activities coincided with the birthday of Dr. (Mrs.) Amita Chauhan- Chairperson, Amity International Schools.

Welcoming the gathering, Dr.Nirupama Prakash - Chairperson, AHVY  2014-15 stressed that various activities conducted by students throughout the year aimed to instill the values of selfless service, care and concern for fellow human beings and other creatures and Amity stands committed to make its students socially responsible and globally competent professionals.

Expressing her delight, Dr. (Mrs.) Amita Chauhan- Chairperson, Amity International Schools said that Amity Human Values Year started as Amity Values Week in the year 2000 and today, it has become really big with 4,568 students participating in various socially relevant activities, which shows the passion, commitment, dedication of students in making society a better place to live in and promoting equitable growth and development in society.

Dr. Ashok K Chauhan announced that the students from various Institutions of Amity who have done exceptional work in their respective fields as part of AHVY would be felicitated with the titles of “Amity Humanity Angels”, “Amity Humanity Champions” and “Amity Humanity Stars” depending upon their level of performance.

Avni Kathuria- a student from Amity Institute of Social Sciences presented a brief report of the activities undertaken during “Amity Human Values Year 2014-15” and highlighted that during the year, over 4,543 students from various Institutions of Amity conducted almost 425 social outreach activities including Capacity Building Workshops, Online campaign to pledge support against female feticide, Gender Sensitization, Street plays and Poster Competitions for raising awareness towards empowering girls and women, Documentary screening on lives of widows of farmers who ended their lives owing to debt, Panel Discussion on Frivolous Complaints with respect to Gender Rights, Interactive session with an acid attack survivor and many more. She remarked that in addition to these, 1368 students chose Human Values & Community Outreach (UG) and Community Outreach (PG) courses offered by Amity Institute of Social Sciences, offered as open electives in the category of Outdoor Activity Based Course (OABC). The courses aim at teaching student human values through project works in different areas of societal concern.

Prof. R R Grover- Advisor, Amity School of Insurance, Banking and Actuarial Sciences presented a cheque of   Rs. 1, 60, 000 towards “ Amitasha”, an NGO arm of Amity working towards the upliftment of underprivileged girl children in the society by proving them free education.

Pooja Gupta- a student enrolled under Project Amitasha was conferred “Dr. (Mrs.) Asha Bhargava Memorial Award” for being an all rounder in academics as well as extra-curricular activities.

The students of University presented a skit on the importance of Human values and students of Amitasha sang a melodious song, bringing forth various human virtues and values.
