Special Lecture by Prof (Dr.) Jorg Zegenhagen, Diamond Light Source, UK organized at Amity University
To familiarize the students about the concept of Diamond Light Source, Prof (Dr.) Jorg Zegenhagen, Diamond Light Source, UK delivered an informative lecture on “Brilliant Synchrotr on Radiation for Research: Diamond Light Source” at Amity campus Sector 125 Noida.
Briefing about the guest, Dr. Ajay Gupta, Director of Amity Centre for Spintronic Materials said that Dr. Jorg Zegenhagen is a renowned scientist with his scientific work dedicated to investigating the atomic structure and electronic properties of surfaces, interfaces, and thin films. He added that Dr. Jorg’s research interest includes transition metal oxide materials/surfaces for solar energy harvesting and fuel production. He apprised the participants that in widening the research portfolio for such investigations, Dr. Jorg has been exploring ways for extending the analytical power of photo electron spectroscopy to the investigation of solid electrolyte interfaces, key players in the quest of producing fuel from sunlight and water.
During the lecture, Prof.(Dr.) Jorg Zegenhagen discussed about the origin of Synchrotron radiation in early 1940’s and their generations. He elaborated about the facility available around the world and in India at Raja Ramanna Centre for Advanced Technology, Indore.Dr. Jorg further discussed about the synchrotron radiation techniques, X-ray imaging, photoelectron spectroscopy and chemical shift, X-ray standing wave imaging.
During the occasion, Prof. R. P. Singh,Chair Professor for Nanoscience & Nanotechnology, Amity Institute of Nanotechnology felicitated the guest and thanked him for sparing his valuable time to visit Amity and deliver an informative lecture.
