AMITY UNIVERSITY CELEBRATES NATIONAL SCIENCE DAY
February 28 is celebrated as National Science Day in India to mark the novel discovery of Raman Effect by the great Indian Physicist Sir C. V. Raman. Amity University celebrated National Science Day, 2015 to spread awareness about the importance of Science and Innovation amongst the younger generation.
Sharing his views, Dr.W Selvamurthy, President, Amity Science, Technology and Innovation Foundation emphasized that Universities in India must become the cradle of Innovation.
The event was graced by eminent scientists from various laboratories who participated in a panel discussion on the topic “Research in Science: Opportunities & Challenge”.
The panelists included Dr. Jagdish Chander, Scientist ‘G’, DST ;Dr. RaviMehrotra , Director, Institute of Cytology and Preventive Oncology (ICMR) ; Dr. Subhash Chand, Emeritus Professor, Biochemical Engineering and Biotechnology, IIT- Delhi; Dr. Rajesh S. Gokhale, Director, CSIR-IGIB, New Delhi; Prof.Subhasis Ghosh, School of Physical Sciences, JNU, New Delhi;Professor Dr. A. Arunachalam, Principal Scientist & Scientific Officer, Office of the Secretary, DARE & Director-General, ICAR; Dr .R P Singh,Distinguished Scientist & Chair Professor, Amity Institute of Nanotechnology.
The panelists discussed important issues such as the pressing need to increase the budget allocation for higher education and research by the Government, inculcating scientific temperament among the younger generation,importance of long term planning for conducting research, steps to support the culture of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, How Research & University should go hand in hand, the role of teachers in creating and disseminating knowledge, Importance of Agri- research in India
