Amity Institute of Education organizes National Seminar on Policy Changes in Teacher Education Program: Accomplishing the Vision
Amity Institute of Education (AIE) organizes a national seminar on “Policy Changes in Teacher Education Program:Accomplishing the Vision” was held at Amity University, Noida.
The main objectives of the seminar was to discuss policy changes in Teacher Education Programmes, to talk about the current challenges of teacher education Institutions and to discuss on challenges face by teacher education institutes.
The seminar was attended by dignitaries of various Universities like DU, IP, CCS, MJPRU, SRM, NIU, Jamia Milia Islamia,and Amity University. The seminar witnessed the presence of 600 participants including B.Ed trainees, research scholars and faculty members from various renowned colleges of Delhi and NCR.
During the seminar, Dr. Alka Muddgal, Head of the Institution, AIE welcomed the dignitaries, faculty members, participants and students. She expressed her gratitude to Dr. Ashok K Chauhan, Founder President, Amity Group for his vision and Vice chancellor Prof (Dr) Balvinder Shukla, for her guidance.
The First Plenary Session of the Seminarwas chaired by Professor Praniti Panda from NUEPA. She elaborated on the current changing scenario in school education and also talked about the challenges before us for preparing teachers of International standards for the global needs. She raised a need to address both global as well as local needs. Dr. Kalpana Sharma, Dean Faculty of Education talked about how the aims of both physical education and education in general are the same. Physical, mental, social and emotional developments of a child are the main goals of education, and B.Ed trainees need to be prepared for the same.
Addressing the gathering, Ms. Mohina Dahr, Director Academics Projects for Amity International and Global schools elaborated on education as dynamic process and relevance of the global teaching perspective. Global education emphasizes on the unity and interdependence of human society. She also talked about the initiatives taken by UNESCO in teacher’s education and the attributes of 21st centuryteaching professionals. Ms. Shashi Banarjee, Principal Shiv Nadar School Noida gave an insight about the shift towards constructive approach of teaching where child constructs his own knowledge and teacher acts as a facilitator. She concluded by emphasizing on the importance of self awareness and awareness about the world.
The afternoon session also witnessed the participation of a large number of students, principals and faculty members of various renowned universities and colleges. The theme of the session was “Challenges Faced by Teacher Education Institutes”.
It commenced with the address by Prof. (Dr.) M. Sen Gupta, Principal KIIT College of Education, Gurgaon (Haryana). He dwelled on the loopholes in Teacher training programmes which are not related to the needs of today’s globalised scenario. According to him the reasons are manifold of which limited duration of B.Ed. programme is one. A competent teacher should think freely and encourage introspection. He stressed the need for the integration of scholastic and co-scholastic activities and the need of the hour is to develop both Convergent and Divergent thinking skills among teachers and students. Dr. Sujata Tripathi, Principal,Ramanujan College of Education, Faridabad reiterated on both tangible and intangible issues related to teacher education.
The seminar became international with the presence of a few faculty members from Royal University of Bhutan. Dr. Kezang Sherab, Dean, Research and Industrial logistics, and Dr Sonam Dean, Samste College of Education,Bhutan were the special invitees. Dr. Kezang Sherab spoke about the prevailing Gross National Happiness Index in Bhutan. He stressed the importance of Action Research and Hidden Curriculum in strengthening the education system across globe. Dr. Sonam focussed on the relevance of both analytical and critical skills for a successful teacher training programme.
There were around 600 enthusiastic participants from various colleges of Delhi and NCR and they actively participated in the various deliberations. The seminar concluded with the address by Prof (Dr) Ranjana Bhatia, Mentor, Amity Institute of Education, AUUP, followed by certificate distribution to the participants.
