National Law School of India University, Bangalore wins 14th Amity National Moot Court Competition
14th Amity National Moot Court Competition organized by Amity Law School, Delhi from Feb 20- 22, 2015 at Amity Campus,Sector- 125, Noida concluded today with the team from National Law School of India University, Bangalore declared as winners of the prestigious Competition.
The Competition aimed at providing budding lawyers an experience of clinical legal education and preparing them toface actual courtroom proceedings. This year’s Moot Court problem was based on Intellectual Property Law and Competition Act.
Mr. Maninder Singh-Additional Solicitor General; Mr. Kalyan Banerjee- Trinamool Congress MP and Senior Advocate, Hon’ble Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva, Delhi High Court and Mr. Lalit Bhasin – President- Society of Indian Law Firms graced the Valediction ceremony.
Welcoming the august gathering and presenting a brief report of 14th Amity National Moot Court Competition, Dr. B P S Sehgal, Director, Amity Law School, Delhi shared that over 32 Law Colleges and Institutes across India participated in the Competition, which was adjudged by over 40 Judges from High Court and Supreme Court during three days, making it an enriching experience for participants and observers. He highlighted the proud achievements of the budding lawyers of Amity Law School, Delhi in various Moot Courts and extra-curricular activities.
Addressing the gathering, Hon’ble Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva, Delhi High Court and the Chief Guest for the occasion shared that the experience which budding Lawyers gain in Moot Courts will benefit them throughout their lives since they get an opportunity to hear arguments and viewpoints, draft the cases on their own and present it before the Judges of High Court and Supreme Court, putting forth the best of their oratory skills.Apprising them with the best ways to argue cases in the Courts, Hon’ble Justice called upon the budding Lawyers to start the case with confidence which will give an impression to the Judge that the Lawyer is well prepared with the facts, set up right in the beginning what is to be conveyed to the Judge, read the Judge and what he wants,try and answer every question thata Judge asks and be brief and precise. He remarked that in Advocacy, the principle that applies is “Great men don’t do different things but they do things differently.” He encouraged the budding Lawyers to be fair in dealing with their clients, and their colleagues and to their own selves.
Addressing the young budding lawyers and congratulating them for participating in the Amity National Moot Court Competition, Trinamool Congress MP and Senior Advocate, Mr. Kalyan Banerjee highlighted the importance of education and stressed that if a person is educated, he has everything. He emphasized that there are no short cuts in legal profession; everyday a Lawyer has to prove his hard labor and sincerity. He called upon the budding Lawyers to read from first line to last line carefully while going through Case Laws and try to learn how facts are drawn from the cases , how Lawyers present the Case and how, depending upon lawyers presentation, Judges decide Cases.He called upon them to take up Litigation and fight for the rights of the poor people and remarked that Lawyers do not enter the profession for minting money;money would eventually run after them if they consistently work hard in the profession.
Mr. Lalit Bhasin – President-Society of Indian Law Firms highlighted the importance of Indian Legal Profession and remarked that Indian Legal Profession is second to none in the world. He shared that sky is the limit in legal profession and there are large number of openings in the profession. Talking about important role of Corporate Law, he averred that the economic progress and development of the country is not possible without the fundamental of Transactional Laws and Corporate Laws; the bilateral agreements between two countries cannot happen without the help of Transactional Laws and Corporate Laws. He called upon the law students to keep reading and updating themselves with the contemporary laws of various countries across the world.
Mr. Maninder Singh- Additional Solicitor General of India encouraged the budding Lawyers by emphasizing that if they are willing to work hard, nothing can hold them back in Legal profession.
The semi-finals of the Moot Court were contested between four teams – National Law School, Bhopal ;National Law School of India University, Bangalore; Indian Law School, Pune and National Law University, Orissa (NLUO) outof which National Law School, Bhopal and National Law School of India University, Bangalore emerged as finalists.
Winning Team from National Law School of India University, Bangalore was given a Rolling Trophy along with the Cash Prize of Rs, 20, 000 and Runners-Up Team was felicitated with a Trophy alongwith the Cash Prize of Rs. 15,000.
Aniruddh from Campus Law Centre, Delhi University was adjudged as the Best Speaker. The Best Memorial Trophy went to the team from National Law School of India University Bangalore. Best Researcher Award was lifted by Ishita from Symbiosis Law School, Noida
