Amity University organizes a special guest lecture on the book “Nose to Nose” by Professor Sir Peter Cook

Amity School of Architecture and Planningorganized a special guest lecture on the book “Nose to Nose” by Professor SirPeter Cook, a renowned Architect, Lecturer and Writer on architectural subjectsat Amity campus, Sector 125, Noida.

Welcoming theguest, Prof. Anjali, Director, AmitySchool of Architecture and Planning presented a brief about Prof. Sir PeterCook. Introducing the speaker, she said that Prof Sir Peter Cook is the founderof Archigram, an architectural group which was formed in 1960s and is based atthe Architectural Association, London. She mentioned that Prof. Cook has beenthe proud recipient of many awards by British Government and has also beenrewarded by the French Government for his various remarkable contributionstowards arts and literature. She added that he has conducted many Exhibitionsaround the globe and has many publications to his credit.

Enlightening thestudents about architecture, Prof. SirPeter Cook said that while handling a project an architect should sniff theenvironment of the city and type of people it involves and based on that createan appropriate structure. He further added that architecture is creatingsomething out of nothing. Prof. Cook also explained that there is potential fora radical shift in the understanding of architecture education, he said that architecturaleducation doesn’t limit the person to designing buildings but also enables themto look at the world in more depth. During the lecture, Sir Peter Cook presenteda selection of his projects while emphasizing his recent work with GavinRobotham and the CRAB studio, with forays into the seaside, kiosks, not-quite-architecturearchitecture, continual observation of people, cartoons and the essentialsilliness of daily life. He also briefed the students about the construction of“cheerful” buildings, blue buildings, Arcadian, his work in St. Stephens Churchamongst other.

During thelecture, Sir Cook shared the key experiences of his life which included theinformation about his early education in field of architecture and said that helearnt architecture from a European college which followed the old school ofthoughts and taught him the traditional architecture but with life experiences& technology advancement he reformed his approach into modern architecture.He remarked that he has a great influence of natural forms in his architecturestyle.
