Delegation from Durham Research Center, Omaha, NE visits Amity University
In an endeavor to seek collaborative options between Amity and Durham Research Centre , Dr Shilpa Buch professor, & Vice chair for Research, Department of Pharmacology & Experimental Neuroscience from Durham Research Center, Omaha, USA visited Amity University.
Welcoming the guests, Dr. W Selvamurthy, President, Amity Science, Technology &Innovation Foundation highlighted the exemplary achievements of Amity University, its faculty members,researchers and Scientists, academic programmes offered by university and the patents filed by researchers and scientists. He also added that India and USA are good partners; they have been doing collaborative projects in different areas. Dr. Selvamurthy welcomed collaboration between Amity University and University of Nebraska, Omaha, USA.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Shilpa Buch briefed that the Infection with HIV-1 is frequently complicated in last stages by a neurological syndrome, HIV-associated dementia (HAD), clinically characterized by abnormalities in cognition, motor performance, and behavior.She also shared about the long term goal of her group is to identify novel therapeutic strategies that may enhance neuronal function and survival in NeuroAIDS, with possible implications in other neurodegenerative diseases.
During the discussion, various collaborative options were mooted including Gut Microbiome with respect to neurological disorders, HIV Infection & drugabuse and PHD students exchange programmes & training.
The discussion was attended by S.S. Aggarwal, Director, General Amity Institute of Pharmacy Distinguished Scientist, HOIs and Senior Officials of Amity University.
The delegation was taken for round of the campus and visited laboratories, Amity Innovation Incubator and Central Library.
