Eminent Scientist Dr. André Anders delivers lecture on Plasma Technology at Amity University
Amity University organized a special lecture on “Developing Plasma Tools to Deposit Thin Film and Nano Particles” by Dr André Anders, Senior Scientist and the Leader of the Plasma Applications Group at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, Berkeley (LBNL), California, at Amity Campus, Sector 125 Noida.
The lecture was attended by Dr. Ashok K Chauhan, Founder President,Amity Group; Dr. R.K. Kotnala, Chief Scientist, CSIR-National Physical Laboratory (NPL) along with various Senior Officials, Researchers,Scholars, Academicians and Students of Amity University.
Introducing the speaker and highlighting his impressive career, Prof. Sunita Rattan, Additional Director, Amity Institute of Applied Sciences- stressed that Dr. Anders began his career as a Staff Scientist at the Central Institute for Electron Physics (The Academy of Sciences) in (East) Berlin, Germany, and the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics in Garching, Germany. Later, he joined Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) in Berkeley, California, in 1992,where he is currently a Senior Scientist and Leader of the Applications Group.
During his lecture, Dr André Anders discussed on the science of plasmas and their applications in various mediums over the past 250 years. He shared the newer developments in the use of Plasmas over the last few decades including the use of plasmas for the preparation of thin films and coatings that support much of the present high-tech lifestyle. Dr. Anders said that there are coatings everywhere from a Packet of Potato Chips to Thermal Resistance. He further added that there are many plasma based deposition systems as plasma offers more controlled thin film micro structure than conventional physical vapor. Dr Andres also discussed the Journal of Applied Physics stating that it is the world’s most comprehensive collection of applied physics research.
The lecture was followed by an interactive session, during which the participants posed pertinent questions on the plasma technology for gold films, how to prepare the surface during the procedure and size selectivity for the technique, which were efficiently addressed by Dr André Anders.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Ashok K Chauhan said that the lecture was very informative and enlightening for Amitians and he proposed a Joint Centre of Excellence between Amity and to the speaker.
During the occasion, Dr. R.K.Kotnala, Chief Scientist, CSIR-National Physical Laboratory (NPL) was conferred with the Distinguished Professorship (Hony.) at Amity University UP by Dr. Ashok K Chauhan.
