Self Defense Workshop for Students organized at Amity Institute of Education, New Delhi
On the occasion of International Women’s day, Amity Institute of Education (AIE) organized a demonstration for the girl students of AIE on “Self Defence Techniques for Girls”. The aim of the workshop was to familiarize the female students about various self defense techniques at the time of crisis for self help or to even help others in need.
A team lead by Ms. Bharti,Head Constable and four of her team members (Constables) from Special Police Unit for Women and Children, Nanak Pura, New Delhi demonstrated various self defence techniques. The team was deputed by DCP Ms.Varsha Sharma from Crime against Women Cell, Nanakpura, New Delhi.
During the demonstration, Ms. Bharti stated that it is absolutely essential for women to raise their voice against any misconduct and bring the perpetrators to book as it will not only teach them a lesson but also act as a deterrent. She further added that awareness is the first line of defense and it is very important to be aware about yourself, your surroundings, and your potential attacker's likely strategies. She apprised the participants that criminals are adept at choosing targets that appear to be unaware of what is going on around them. She outlined that by being aware of your surroundings and by projecting a "force presence'" many such situations can be avoided.
The session was attended by more than 100 girls of Amity Institute of Education, New Delhi. The session was interactive in nature with girls sharing their experiences and reactions.
