Eminent Scientists enlighten the Young Minds during the Inauguration of “Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE) Internship Programme" at Amity University

Amity University, Uttar Pradesh in association with Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India started with five day  “Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE) Internship Programme" at Amity Campus, Sector-125, Noida.


The event was inaugurated by Guest of Honor Dr. S.K. Tandon, Ex-Pro- Vice Chancellor ,Delhi University; Dr. Shantanu Chowdhury- Distinguished Scientist CSIR-IGIB, New Delhi; Dr. B.N. Mallick- Neuro-Physiologist, Neuroscience Laboratory, School of Life Sciences, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi and Prof.(Dr.) Bhudev C. Das – Chair Professor &  Chairman -Amity Institute of Molecular Medicine & Stem Cell Research.

 

The Programme involves the interaction of students, who are top performers of Class X and pursuing Science in Class XI and XII, with globally renowned scientists. This programme will provide an opportunity to work in laboratories with them thereby, enhancing the knowledge of the participants and building their confidence to pursue Science and Research as a career of choice. More than 200 students from Bal Bharti Public  Noida; Shree Krishna Inter College, Noida, Shree Sant Vinoba Inter-College, Noida and Amity International Schools spread over Delhi/ NCR are participating in the Camp.

 

Briefing the participants about the programme, Prof. (Dr.) Bhudev C. Das said thatthe aim of the programme is to pursue the students for a career in Science and to build the required critical human resource pool for strengthening and expanding the Science & Technology system and R&D base. He further added that there are very few Indian Nobel Laureates especially in the field of Science; hence, there is a need for young minds to explore career opportunities in this field.

 

Addressing the gathering, Dr. B N Mallick said that it is possible to inspire those people who have the potential to be inspired. Citing the example, he added that a gardener can sow a seed but it is the potential of the seed and right nurturing that can result to its growth. He mentioned that every person has potential to be successful but it requires right environment, from home, school to peer group, to nurture the talent. He advised the participants to read Biographies as the life experiences of the people which will inspire them to achieve success. Dr. Mallick mentioned that presently it is a beautiful era wherein there is an easy access to information due to internet technology but it is important for students to filter the relevant information from the abundance of information available.

 

Sharing his views on Science & Technology, Dr. S K Tandon said that in present time, Science is a huge global enterprise and highly competitive as there are many countries that have developed various innovations of human benefit and society’s development. He further added that the world still faces a lot of problems concern to environment, health, defense etc. and it is the responsibility of Science to resolve them or lessen the impact. Dr. Tandon explained the participants the meaning of Science as S stands for scientific method and synergy, C stands for Curiosity & Creativity, I stands for Innovation, Invention, Imagination & Inspiration, E stands for experiment, N stands for understanding nature, C stands for complexity and E stands for exploration & efficient systems.

 

Dr. Shantanu Chowdhury opined that a person should opt for a career of his/her interest and pursue it with complete dedication. He apprised that to achieve great success, a person should have faith in oneself and should follow the mantra of ‘Tolerance for Failure’.  

 

During the five day programme various activities will be conducted including “Physics Live Demonstration” by Dr. M.S. Marwaha – Associate Professor, S.G.G.S College, Chandigarh & Executive Member Indian Association of Physics Teachers; “Science Through Scientoon” by Dr. Pradeep K. Srivastava- Senior Scientist (Central Drug Research Institute, Lucknow); “Chemistry Live Demonstration” by Dr. Samredra Kumar-Director- National Council of Science Museum, Project Coordinator & Head Regional Science City“Innovation, Creativity & Life Skills” by Dr. Nimish Kapoor -Senior Scientific Officer –Vigyan Prasar (Science Communication & Training );“Astronomy” by Dr. Arvind C. Ranade- Vigyan Prasar (Scientist- Space Sciences);Astronomy in Kitchen and Liquid Vs Miracle” by Dr. Rakish Tripathi –Education Assistant), National Science Center, Delhi and many other interesting modules.
