“Time has come to manufacture high-end sensors indigenously.” Opines Dr. V K Saraswat during 2nd International Space Conference (ISC) 2015 at Amity University
Amity University in association with Aryavarta Space Organization started two-day International Space Conference at Amity Campus, Sector 125, Noida. The aim of the conference is to provide a common platform for Academicians, Scientists, Researchers and students to share knowledge and ideas for R&D advancements in Space Sector Science & Technology, Space Law & Policy and life science issues) and to promote Space Applications in Climate Change.
The conference was inaugurated by Chief Guest Dr. V K Saraswat, Former SA to Defence Minister, DG-DRDO, Govt of India; Mr. Aseem Chauhan, Chancellor, Amity University Rajasthan; Dr. W Selvemurthy, President; Amity Science Technology Innovation and Foundation; Maj Gen K Jai Singh, Group Vice Chancellor, Amity and Prof. (Dr.) Balvinder Shukla, Vice Chancellor, Amity University. During the conference, more than 200 delegates and students participated from across the globe.
Welcoming the guests, Dr. M S Prasad, Co-Chairman, ISC 2015 said that India has made remarkable achievements in space; the number of successful space endeavors in India are well equipped comparatively higher than any other space agency in the world. He further added that India is also in a position to launch the satellites for other countries. He also informed that the current endeavor at Indian Space Organizations is to make space an enabling engineering and research domain for common public. Dr. Prasad commended Indian Scientists for their work on Re-usable Launch Vehicles. He further expressed his hope that the participants will find the conference to be technically innovative and challenging.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Guest Dr. V K Saraswat, Former SA to Defence Minister, DG-DRDO, Govt of India said that India is progressing leaps and bounds in Space Technology. Satellites are being used for national security, environment, conservation of nature and other varied purposes but still some sensors used in satellites are being imported from other countries. Any satellite without sensor is like man without eyes. Dr. Saraswat further added that by the year 2030 India will be the third largest economy of the world, hence, India needs to excel not just in the domain of space but in every industry. He also mentioned that Indian Scientists can contribute towards bringing the transformation by channelizing our Research and Development efforts and thereby reducing dependency on foreign technologies. He remarked that the time has come to manufacture high-end sensors indigenously to facilitate research in space and related areas. Sharing his views on Space Laws, he said that in today’s time, the world is lacking proper framed fundamentals on Space Security and many developed counties are delaying the process of forming the Space Law. He expressed his desire towards the collaboration of Government agencies, Academic Institutions, Researchers and Scientists for augmenting and accelerating R&D in space technology and allied fields.
Enlightening the participants on Space Sector, Dr. W Selvamurthy said that India has proven its strength in space and the scientific projects speak volumes about the growth of India as a country in Innovation and Research. Dr. Selvamurthy further praised the contributions of Dr. V K Saraswat in the field of Space Innovation and Research and congratulated him for being appointed by Government of India as the permanent member of NITI Aayog. Talking about the conference, he said that ISC 2015 will create a platform to showcase new talents, innovations, promote R&D and explore and expand the research and development.
During the conference, Dr. Rushi Ghadawala presented a brief about Aryavarta Space Organization and said that the Conference is expected to bring a dynamic change in the mindset of the budding scientists, technologists and researchers and they will work towards new innovations to overcome the present limitations of the technologies.
During the first technical session, Dr. V Ponraj, Scientist G and SA to Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam presented a lecture on Space and Solar Power.
During the conference, various topics will be discussed such as Space Security and Situational Awareness, Space Radiation Effect at Cellular Level and Biological; Antimatter Propulsion and Asteroids based applications in Space.
