“North Zone Inter University Chess Tournament”by AIU starts at Amity with more than 41 FIDE rated players competing
The much awaited and spectacular “North Zone Inter University Chess Tournament (Men and Women)” by Association of Indian Universities- AIU (Inter University Sports Board of India) started at Amity University, Noida today with over 32 teams participating from Universities located in 11 States across North Zone including Delhi University, GNDU, Amritsar; CCS University, Meerut; Lucknow University, Kanpur University and others.
Declaring the Tournament open, Dr. B Shukla- Vice Chancellor, Amity University Uttar Pradesh said that it is a proud privilege for Amity University to host the prestigious North Zone Inter University Chess Tournament (Men and Women). She stressed that such tournaments help in inculcating several virtues amongst the student players including sportsmanship, a sense of healthy competition, discipline, mental agility and concentration, which would help them scale higher not only in their personal lives but also, excessively competent professional lives. She wished luck to all the players and encouraged them to give their best during the Tournament.
The 6 round Tournament is played as per Swiss league system, wherein all the teams will play all rounds without any knock out. The winning team will be declared after the last round by amassing the scores gathered in different rounds by the concerned team members. More than 41 FIDE rated players are participating in the tournament. Over 4 Arbiters from Delhi Chess Association and 4 Arbiters from UP Chess Association are roped in to ensure the fair playing as per Federation Internationale Des Eches (World Chess Federation), FIDE rules and regulations. Mr. Biju Raj S is the Chief Arbiter for the Tournament.
