Telecom leaders suggest ways to bridge gap between Telecom industry and Academia during ‘Amity Telecom Vision Board’
Amity Institute of Telecom Technology and Management (AITEM) organized its annual ‘Amity Telecom Vision Board’ Meeting at Amity University Campus, Sector-125, Noida with an aim to bridge the gap between Telecom Industry and Academia and ensure the smooth transition of students from academia to professional world.
Eminent Telecom industry leaders including Mr. Akhil Gupta- Vice Chairman, Bharti Enterprises, Mr. Vimal Wakhlu- CMD, TCIL; Mr. Ravindar Popli- Head - Service Delivery, India Region ,Nokia; Mr. T R Dua- Director, Tower And Infrastructure Providers Association(TAIPA); Air Commodore S S Motial Chairman DECT Forum India & Member, Board of Directors, ESSJAY Ericsson; Mr. Milind Pathak-Global Head New Business,, One97 Communication Ltd.; Mr. Ajay Rajan Mishra-CEO, International Market for Innovation , Former Chairman- ITU innovations Focus Group (UN); Mr. Dinesh Chand Sharma-Director, Standardization, Policy & Regulation (Seconded European Standardizations Expert in India); Mr. Sachin Deshpande-Chief Operating Officer, Radius Energy International Limited and others attended the Meeting.
Welcoming the distinguished Corporate Leaders, Lt. Gen P D Bhargava- Advisor, Amity Institute of Telecom Technology and Management shared that it has always been an endeavor at AITEM to strengthen the ties with industry by holding ‘Amity Telecom Vision Board’ Meeting every year. He stressed that Industry feel that the graduates being churned out by Universities are not up to the mark whereas Universities feel that Industry doesn’t have time or enough projects for their students. He presented a brief about the proceedings of last Vision Board Meeting and measures at AITEM taken to bridge the gap between theory and practical aspects through frequent Guest Lectures by industry doyens for the enrichment of students as well as faculty members, encouraging faculty to attend Seminars/ Conferences, Establishing Industry supported Telecom Laboratory and various other initiatives.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Akhil Gupta opined that industry is always on a lookout for relevant new-comers and commended AITEM’s extent of involvement with Telecom industry. He shared that whenever a trainee comes to industry, he is taken to oblige someone and the candidate undergoes training just for the sake of a Certificate. He lamented that perhaps industry has failed to come upto that level. He suggested that Universities have to provide service to industry on continual basis, engaging it and regularly providing solutions to their problems through research and development in areas such as maintenance of Telecom Towers, Tower Radiation, studying Carbon Footprints etc.
Sharing his views, Dr. Ashok K Chauhan- Founder President, Amity Group thanked Telecom luminaries to spare their valuable time for the enrichment of the students and faculty members of AITEM. He stressed that all Amity Institutions accord high importance to practical learning. He called upon the Corporate leaders to suggest innovative ways of bridging the gap between industry and academia. He shared that academic institutions have time and resources to focus on R&D and suggested that Amity University could be an active research base for Corporate, forging a symbiotic relationship between the two.
Mr. Ajay Rajan Mishra- CEO, International Market for Innovation , Former Chairman ITU Innovations, Focus Group, while sharing his views, opined that when a student goes to Industry for internship, he should be asked by the University to bring back the problems or identify the gaps respective organization is facing and take it up as a topic of research for their dissertation/project work. This would add value to the industry as well as students. He also suggested that the Institutes should focus on holistic applied learning which would make them industry ready.
The industry guests provided inputs on various Agendas of the Meeting which included “Assessing the feasibility of Accreditation of B Tech – Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering Degree by Telecom Sector Skill Council (TSSC)/ Telecom Industry/Telecom Organization”, “Training of faculty as trainers on live equipment”, and others
During the event, a specialized Telecom Laboratory which has come up with the equipments presented by key players in Telecom industry including Bharti Airtel, Delta Power Solutions Ltd, Radius Energy International, Ericsson India, BlueTown Denmark was inaugurated by Dr. Ashok K Chauhan- Founder President, Amity Group and other Industry Leaders.
The Laboratory aims to enhance the learning experience of the students and provide them hands on practice, thereby making them job ready even before they graduate. The equipments in the Laboratory include Cellular Base Station Equipment with three GSM Antennas, two Microwave Antennas along with cables and other accessories, Advance Integrated Power System for multi service providers, Fibre-To-Home Deployment Architecture with actual passive components mounted on the board.
