She stressed that education in India has to be brought at par with global standards which is possible only through collective efforts and transforming teaching universities into research driven Universities. She apprised the gathering that Amity University was established in 2005 to make India a “Knowledge Superpower” through Research, Innovation and Excellence in Academics and shared that today, Amity University is contributing immensely in the orientation and re-orientation of education sector in India.

Sharing his thoughts, Mr. Rajendra Lal- President, AIU said that India not only needs State run, Central or Deemed Universities but also Private Universities. Private Universities are autonomous in true sense; they are financially and academically autonomous. Academic autonomy comes with responsibility and accountability. It gives a right to student to see that he is fairly evaluated by teachers and gives teachers the right to evaluate their own students since they know their students much better. He stressed that Government of India is encouraging academic autonomy at Postgraduate level and we, at our respective levels, should expedite it.

Expressing his views, Dr. Ashok K Chauhan- Founder President, Amity Group said that it is a historical day for Amity when so many best brains across the country have congregated under one roof. He remarked that Indian education sector is going through a precarious phase where not even a single Indian educational institution has appeared in the Top 100 or even Top 200 in the latest rankings of the world’s best universities. He called upon all the Vice Chancellors to contribute collectively in making Indian Institutions the best in the world. He called all of them “lucky” since they would themselves witness the transformation of India into a “Superpower” in near future.

Addressing the gathering, Prof D S Chauhan- Secretary General (Add Charge), AIU said that AIU help clearing all the impediments that hinder smooth governing of the Universities across India. He briefed that AIU is a common platform through which traditional universities, open universities, professional universities, Institutes of National Importance and deemed-to-be universities could come together and promote programmes that would help to improve standards of instruction, examination, research, textbooks and scholarly publications in Universities.
