Amity Centre for Science Olympiads organizes Valedictory Function of Mathematics Olympiad Workshop
Amity Centre for Science Olympiads organized the Valedictory Function of Mathematics Olympiad Workshop on June 10, 2010 at Amity Campus, Sector-125, Noida.
The aim of Mathematics Olympiad is to encourage young students to strive for excellence in Mathematics and to promote friendship among students, teachers and scientists from different parts of India and the world.
Prof. Dr. K. Kanan, Dean, Sastra University, Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu and Prof. Dr. R. Srikanth, Associate Dean, Sastra University, Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu were the renowned scholars in the field of mathematics who trained the students in the Workshop.
Eminent guests who shared their views with the distinguished gathering included Prof. P.B. Sharma, Vice Chancellor, Delhi Technological University and Prof. Bani Singh, Ex. Prof. & Head, Department of Mathematics, IIT Roorkee. Major Gen. K.Jai Singh, Vice Chancellor, Amity University Uttar Pradesh was also present in the occasion.
Prof. P.B. Sharma, Vice Chancellor, Delhi Technological University while addressing the gathering said that it was great initiative to organize such a workshop. He was delighted to see the participation of the students from schools all over the country. He said that mathematics is applicable in the field of management as well as developmental activities which take place around us. Mathematics is fundamental for any technological developments that are taking place in the country. Mathematics can be considered as the base of science and technology for today and tomorrow.
He also added that technology is double edged. It has both the facets, namely destructive and constructive. So, the young generation should take the constructive side and help the society in making things better by proper utilization of science and technology.
Prof. Bani Singh, Ex. Prof. & Head, Department of Mathematics, IIT Roorkee appreciated the workshop and was glad to see humungous participation of students in the workshop. He said that to learn something by heart one needs lot of determination, effort and energy, which is applicable in mathematics. He advised the students to observe things around their surrounding inquisitively which would also help them to be more enthusiastic towards the subject and make them knowledgeable and sensible future citizens.
Shiyali Sharma, a student of class VIII, Amity International School, Noida said that she has attended the workshop for five consecutive years which gave her great exposure along with in-depth knowledge of the subject. It has made her parents also proud. The workshop has broadened her vision and her thinking capacity. Besides academics she enjoyed attending the yoga sessions in the morning and games session in the evening.
Ananya Rajit, a class VI student from the junior group, said that attending the workshop was a fruitful experience which enriched and sharpened her mathematical skils and now she agrees with the teachers that maths is fun. She emphasized that were given individual attention which helped them a lot in understanding the tips and tricks of mathematics.
Gautam Shah, class XII, Amity International School, Noida said that his experience was unique. The teachers not only showed them the beauty of mathematics but also solved their problems which they were scared of. He extended his gratitude to the teachers in the workshop and Amity for holding such workshop.
The receipants of the Global Talent Search Award were Ayush Agarwal, Apeejay School, Noida, Harshit Yadav, Lady of Fatima School, Gurgaon, Twinkle Parekh, The Galaxy educational System Gujrat, Aishwarya Rathod, The Galaxy educational System Gujrat, Manisha Goel, Ramjas School, Anand Parvat, New Delhi.
This was the 9th Olympiad Workshop that was held in Amity. The Mathematics Olympiad was a talent search training programme. Students from various schools who participated in the training were awarded with certificates and prizes. A total number of 85 students from classes VII to XII participated in the Mathematics Olympiad Workshop from different schools. The schools which participated in the Mathematics Olympiad are Mater Dei School, Sacred Heart Convent, Ludhiana, Punjab, Somerville School, Deep Memorial School, J.K.G. International School, Akanksha Public School, Shahjahanpur, M.R. Scindia School, Shahjahanpur and the entire fraternity of Amity International Schools to name a few.
