Prof. Shashi Prabha Kumar- an eminent Sanskrit Scholar delivers lecture at Amity University
Prof. Shashi Prabha Kumar- an eminent Sanskrit Scholar with thirty seven years of teaching experience in various departments of CSS, JNU, Maitreyi College, University of Delhi, delivered an engrossing lecture on “ Vedic View of Life” at Amity University, Sector-125, Noida. The lecture was organised under the Amity International Centre Lecture Series. This was 126th lecture of AIC.
Prof. Kumar started her lecture with the chanting of pious “Gayantri Mantra” and outlining the importance of Vedas, which are the most ancient of the Indian religious scriptures and are the most important contribution of India to the civilization of the world. “Vedas can be rightly called the treasure-trove of human values and culture. The message of Vedas is not meant for a particular creed, religion or sexes. Vedas do not discriminate between men and women, unlike the way they are portrayed. Vedas are misconstrued by many people but actually Vedas promote a vision of equality. The teachings of Vedas are very much relevant, regardless of the age and era. It is very important to believe in God, who is omnipresent. Today’s fast paced world promotes consumerist attitude and utilitarianism, which is nothing but the philosophy of “Use and Throw”. Today people have a way of life but not a view of life. Vedas teach them how to inculcate a view of life as well as a way of life. Man is an animal if he does not think beyond animal instincts. A man has the potential to transcend mortality and become immortal while living, and the way to achieving immortality while living is outlined beautifully in Vedas” averred Prof. Shashi Prabha.
Prof. Prabha also dwelt on the power of “Vedic Mantras” and the oblations made during “Yajna” during her lecture, which was organised on the occasion of the birthday of the Chancellor, Amity University, Uttar Pradesh, Mr. Atul Chauhan who is a personification of grace, dignity and success.
The lecture was followed by a sumptuous “Chaat Party” hosted for the extended Amity family comprising of Directors, Head of Institutions and Senior faculty members.
