SVKM Pravin Gandhi College of Law, Mumbai wins Amity National Moot Court Competition 2013
SVKM Pravin Gandhi College of Law, Mumbai won the Amity National Moot Court Competition 2013 organized by Amity Law School, Centre -II on the theme “International Trade Laws” at Amity University Noida, Sector-125. In finals SVKM Pravin Gandhi College of Law, Mumbai defeated Nirma University, Gujarat in a fierce battle of legal acumen and oratory skills.

Goswami, Chairman – Bar Council of Delhi; Justice Dinesh Gupta, Judge – Allahabad High Court; Justice Manmohan, Judge – Delhi High Court; Justice Satish Chandra Sharma, Judge, Madhya Pradesh High Court; Ms. Vijay Lakshmi, District & Sessions Judge – Gautam Budh Nagar; Dr. Ashok K. Chauhan, Founder President, Amity Group; Prof. Mamta Srivastava, Addl Director – Amity Law School Centre-II blessed the students and awarded certificate’s and trophies to the winners during the Valediction Ceremony of Amity National Moot Court Competition.
Mr. R.S. Goswami, Chairman – Bar Council of Delhi during the occasion said that to be lawyer one must have commitment to serve individual, society and entire nation. Being a lawyer is a hallmark of prestige and authority. Mr. Goswami opined that to be a successful lawyer one should have control on five things – work, behavior, thoughts, character and habits. He advised the future advocates to stick to facts and laws as many times, it was observed that young legal professions even do not have correct understanding of IPC / CrPC.
Justice Dinesh Gupta, Judge – Allahabad High Court said that art of advocacy can be learnt only while sitting during court proceedings. Students should spend more time listening to the court and observe court happenings. Justice Gupta was delighted to watch the extraordinary performance of students and commented that their arguments were much better prepared than some of the practicing lawyers which can be further developed only through such Moot Court Competitions. He lauded the knowledge of law amongst students and recommended that lawyers should come forward whenever there is encroachment of rights.
Justice Manmohan, Judge – Delhi High Court said that world has made a drastic change through the use of computers be it doing business, buying books online etc. One has to keep track of the technological changes so that one can utilize it fully. While addressing on International Trade Laws (ITL), Justice Manmohan said the idea of ITL was started in 1944 with an aim of framing laws and regulations for free and fair trade practices. ITL is an expanding field and legal professionals should have thorough understanding of the ITL laws
Dr. Ashok K. Chauhan, Founder President, Amity University said that it is matter of great pride for Amity Law School that they have successfully organized the National Moot Court Competition in which SVKM Pravin Gandhi College of Law, Mumbai emerged as winner. But this does not imply that other teams were loosers. In fact every team is a winner and students in this profession should be more knowledgeable than others because they have to deal with cases revolving around various subjects.
Prof. Mamta Srivastava, Addl Director – Amity Law School Centre-II gave a brief overview of the National Moot Court Competition and shared that more than 20 Law Colleges/ Institutes across the country are participating in “Amity National Moot Court Competition” including Symbiosis Law School, Pune; KIIT School of Law, Odisha; National Law University, Odisha; Pravin Gandhi College of Law, Mumbai; ICFAI University, Dehradun; Symbiosis Law School, Noida and others. The three-day competition saw fierce mooting between the teams through preliminary rounds, quarter-finals, semi-finals and the finals. Sitting Judges of High Courts and eminent legal professionals judged all the rounds.
The semi-finals of the Moot Court were contested amongst four team SVKM Pravin Gandhi College of Law - Mumbai; Nirma University - Gujarat; I.P. University and Symbiosis Law School - Noida.
Mr. Sarij Sahni - Pravin Gandhi College of Law, Mumbai was adjudged as the “Best Speaker Male; Ms. Arshiya Mehta from Symbiosis Law School Noida as Best Speaker Female. The Best Memorial Trophy went to the team from Symbiosis Law School – Pune.
