Hon’ble Mr. Justice Dipak Misra, Judge, Supreme Court of India inaugurates “Amity National Moot Court Competition 2013”
Amity Law School, Centre-II - Amity University commenced three day “Amity National Moot Court Competition 2013” from March 14-16, 2013 at Amity University Campus, Sector- 125 Noida.
Amity Moot Court Competition is a primary mode of clinical legal education which aims to hone the creative and analytical skills of budding lawyers, inculcating in them an expertise to frame laws and prepare drafts. Their knowledge of laws and constitution is tested by bench of three or more judges invited to assess them.
The case problem which will be mooted by budding lawyers during “Amity National Moot Court Competition 2013” is based on International Trade Law and related areas.
The Competition was inaugurated by Hon’ble Mr. Justice Dipak Misra, Judge, Supreme Court of India, Prof. A.K. Koul, Vice-Chancellor, National University Of Study & Research in Law, Ranchi; Justice K.D. Sahi, Retd. Judge, Allahabad High Court; Dr. Ashok K Chauhan- Founder President, Amity Group and Maj. Gen K J Singh- Group Vice Chancellor, Amity Universities.
Delivering a very inspirational and engrossing speech, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Dipak Misra, Judge, Supreme Court of India shared several tips with the students to become successful lawyers in the future. He advised them to be thorough with the facts; understand and analyze them properly and then apply law to the case. He motivated the budding lawyers to remain calm and composed since, in courts they would have to face arguments/cross arguments which are bound to test their patience. Hon’ble Mr. Justice Dipak Misra stressed that the brilliance of young minds should not be underrated; sometimes, even young minds can have the brightest of intellect. Further advising the students, he remarked that young lawyers should have tremendous curiosity and hope but that hope should not be everlasting. “Hope is good for breakfast but not for dinner”, stressed Hon’ble Judge.
Welcoming the members of Judiciary, academia and students, Prof. Mamta Srivastava, Addl. Director of Amity Law School Centre-II gave a brief overview of the National Moot Court Competition and shared that more than 20 Law Colleges/ Institutes across the country are participating in “Amity National Moot Court Competition” including Symbiosis Law School, Pune; KIIT School of Law, Odisha; National Law University, Odisha; Pravin Gandhi College of Law, Mumbai; ICFAI University, Dehradun; Symbiosis Law School, Noida and others.
Sharing his views during the occasion, Dr. Ashok K. Chauhan- Founder President, Amity Group opined that Indian lawyers have the best brains and sharp acumen and they have proved their mettle across the world with their commitment, hard work and passion for the profession. He stressed that lawyers need intuition, creativity, flexibility, courage, conviction, hard work and a constant drive for improvisation to become successful in their profession.
Stressing on the importance of legal education in the country, Justice K.D. Sahi, Retd. Judge, Allahabad High Court stated that the future of the country depends upon the law of the country. Legal profession is no more considered as the last career option by the students. Law profession provides numerous job opportunities in the emerging fields such as IPR, Cyber Law, Public Health Law and others. Justice K.D. Sahi lamented the degradation of the quality of legal education being offered in law colleges across the country and called for an immediate need to revamp and redesign the same.
