Student delegates representing Amity International Model United Nations (AIMUN) unanimously support to combat Financial Terrorism & Child Abuse during AIMUN Conference at Amity
India’s Biggest three day International High School Model UN “Amity International Model United Nations (AIMUN) Conference organized by Amity Educational Resource Centre together with Amity International Schools in support with UNESCO and UN Information Centre for India and Bhutan from November 29 – December 01, 2012 concluded at Amity University Campus, Sector-125, Noida.
Over 450 high school students from over 48 Schools of India and 15 International Schools located in Denmark, Germany, Hungary, South Korea, Mauritius, Maldives and India participated in AIMUN, simulating the proceedings of Security Council, Crisis Committee, General Assembly, UNESCO, Historical NATO, Historical Security Council, ECOSOC, Council of EU, UNHRC.
The valediction ceremony was graced by the Chief Guest Mr. Kilemi Mwiria, Minister of Education – Government of Kenya, Mr. Gaston Stronck, Luxembourg Ambassador to India, Maj. Gen K J Singh- Group Vice Chancellor, Amity University and Ms. Jyoti Arora-Head, AIMUN 2012 and Amity Educational Resource Centre, Amity Group of Schools
According a warm welcome to the guests and delegates, Ms. Jyoti Arora-Head, AIMUN 2012 and Amity Educational Resource Centre, Amity Group of Schools presented a bird’s eye view of the three day Conference and highlighted how during the various sessions of the conference, youth leaders of tomorrow from all over the globe, donning the mantle of the ambassadors of various countries, put their heads together trying to evolve the solutions to the grave problems faced by International Community.
Applauding Amity for taking such a great initiative, providing youth across the globe a platform to discuss and identify solutions to the issues haunting the International Community in order to carve a better world for the coming generations, Mr. Kilemi Mwiria, Minister of Education – Government of Kenya said that today’s youth are lucky to have such exposure; they have opportunity to be trained and build experience and to become better than their peers. Mr. Mwiria said that biggest problem of world is inequality, be it inequality between countries, inequality within country, within social group, inequality in terms of gender, religion, social group, ethnicity. The differences are only due to fight for resources which are very scarce. Solution is justice and fairness towards everything. Yong people are innocent and not exposed to power; they can bring peace & harmony through education. Let education liberate you; bring peace in the world, echoed Mr. Mwiria.
Maj. Gen K J Singh- Group Vice Chancellor, Amity University congratulated all the National and International delegates who participated in the Conference and motivated them to make the most out of the learning of the Conference. He averred that it has always been an endeavor at Amity Schools to churn out responsible and global citizens and AIMUN is one of the initiatives to fulfill this endeavor.
Damiyar from Kazakhstan representing Japan in Human Resource Council presented his views on rescuing refugees from Syria. He said that in August 2012, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) reported that the number of registered Syrian refugees had reached over 200,000 and around 2.5 million people inside Syria needed help. Student delegate said that his country welcomes all the efforts done for rescuing Syria people
Dhruv from Amity International School Vasundhara representing Ukraine in ECOSOC council discussed on combating financial terrorism and said that it is a global problem which is exploding and there is no country in this world which is not affected with it. Each and every country has to be involved and cooperate with each other to combat financial terrorism.
All delegates of UNESCO council who were discussing on “Protection of children from violence, exploitation & abuse” were of the view that protecting children from violence, exploitation and abuse is an integral component of protecting their rights to survival, growth and development. The whole discussion pointed out few major strategies a) strengthening child protection systems, including the set of laws, policies, regulations and services needed across all social sectors — especially social welfare, education, health, security and justice to support prevention and response to protection related risks b) Promoting social change that is consistent with human rights principles and c) Strengthening child protection in emergencies. Through discussions it was found that child trafficking unlike many other issues is a concern in both developed and developing nations.
Various International issues that were discussed during three day Conference included “Refugees of the Arab Spring” and “Issue of Tamils in Sri Lanka” in UN Humanitarian Council, “The European sovereign debt crisis” and “Directive on common standards & procedures for returning illegally staying third-country national” in European Union, “Iran’s Nuclear Program” in Security Council, “Safety of UN & Associate Personnel” and “Disarmament, demobilization: Pre requisites for peace and development in Africa” in UN General Assembly, “USSR invasion of Afghanistan” in Historical Security Council, “Yugoslavia 1990” in Historical NATO
During the ceremony, the outstanding delegates in each committee were honored with “Best Delegate and High Commendation Award”, the delegates who submitted the Best Paper in their respective committee prior to the conference were given “Best Position Paper Award” and the delegations which excelled in all areas were given “Best Delegation Awards”.

The Indian schools participating in the Conference include DAV Public School, Gurgaon representing Afghanistan; Modern School, Barakhamba Road representing Cuba; Pathways School, Noida representing Syria; Little Angels Higher Secondary School, Gwalior representing Mauritius, Georgia and Qatar; British Co-Ed High School, Patiala representing Niger and all Amity International Schools located in Gurgaon, Sector- 43 and 46, Noida, Saket, Pushp Vihar, Mayur Vihar and Vasundhra etc
