Hollywood glam sensation and UN Youth Champion Ms. Monique Coleman American actress visits Amity University

Ms. Coleman was appointed the first ever ‘Youth Champion’ by the United Nations on November 16, 2010, to raise awareness about the challenges faced by young people, visited Amity University, Noida Campus, Sector-125.

Ms. Monique Coleman visited India as a part of her world tour in which she seeks to raise awareness of the challenges faced by young people, highlight the positive contributions they make to their communities, and promote United Nations global observance of the International year of youth. Ms. Colemans tour is intended to provide opportunities for interaction with youth in an attempt to give a voice to young people, to mobilize them as actors for development of positive social change as well as technical innovation, and most importantly to promote Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

Welcoming, Ms. Monique Coleman, Dr. B. Shukla, Pro-VC (Academics), Amity University Uttar Pradesh said, “all over the world the focus is on the youth as they can bring changes to the world for better with their innovative and constructive thoughts and ideas. Ms. Coleman will raise the awareness and show them the path of progress to meet the challenges faced by the global youth.”

In her address to the august gathering, Ms. Monique Coleman, American Actress, UN Youth Champion said that she has been ventured around the world to listen to the voice of youth and carry it across the globe. Having received the honor of “Youth Champion” would use her new position to promote global efforts to achieve the ‘anti-poverty’ Millennium Development Goal (MDG) which has a deadline of 2015, with a special emphasis on the empowerment of youth. She hoped that she can help young people to achieve the MDGs by encouraging them to speak out and voice their concerns and indicated that she will do so through Facebook, Twitter and through streaming her “Gimme Mo’” online talk show, which is aimed at young people.

Ms. Coleman gave special emphasis on the development of the rural sector and urged people in the privileged urban areas to come out from their comfort zones and work for the progress of the rural sector too.

There was an interactive Question and Answer session with Ms. Coleman as an ambassador for the youth of the world.

The visit of Ms. Coleman to Amity University was preceded by her visit to Amity International School, Saket which commemorated its twenty years of Foundation Day as ‘Amity Sthapna Divas’
