AITTM Organized a Debate Competition on the topic “EUTHANASIA – HUMANE / INHUMANE” as a part of Human Values Quarter
Students of Amity Institute of Telecom Technology and Management (AITTM) organized a “Debate Competition” on the topic “Euthanasia-Humane/Inhumane” on 29th March 2011 as part of Human Values Quarter. It is a very apt topic as it throws light on several moral issues. The topic also makes the students form their own opinions based on their background and most importantly their understanding of life.
There were strong proponents on both sides of the debate for and against euthanasia. Proponents of euthanasia believe it is everyones right to die at a time of their own choice, and in a manner of their own choice, when faced with terminal illness rather than suffer through to the bitter end. Opponents argued that euthanasia cannot be a "private matter of self-determination and personal beliefs, because it is an act that requires two people to make it possible and a complicit society to make it accepted". They consider euthanasia the equivalent of murder, which is against the law everywhere in civilized society, and maintain that medicine and law are the "principal institutions that maintain respect for human life in a secular pluralistic society."
Though there was difference in opinions of the participants, majority of them were against the concept.
Enthusiastic participation from various departments across Amity made this event a success.
Winners for Debate Competition are Prashant Kumar (ASET) and Nishit Gururani (ASET)
