Amity School of Hospitality organized a Seminar on the theme “Food and Nutrition” as part of the three week long Centenary Celebration of International Women’s Day at Amity University campus, Sector-125, Noida

Women starts her journey as a daughter, graduates as a wife, masters the art of motherhood, but she always excels in her very own kitchen. She takes care of the family and directly contributes to the healthy growth of the nation. But often at times neglects own health. Therefore, the programme was basically on the healthy eating and cooking for women.

There was an interactive session on “Food and Nutrition” by Dr. Subha Sabarwal, Head of the Department of Dietetics, Indraprastha Apollo Hospital and Ms. Savita Mehta, Vice President, Media Department, Amity Universe. Prof. S.K. Saluja, Director, Amity School of Hospitality was present during the occasion.

While delivering her lecture on the topic “Eating right to remain healthy” Dr. Subha Sabarwal, Head of the Department of Dietetics, Indraprastha Apollo Hospital said, “the food which one eat during the childhood days will be a determining factor for the cardiovascular diseases, diabetes and other health ailments.”

Dr. Subha Sabarwal gave few lifestyle mantras to the audience. They are - to eat in moderation, detox and crash diet are to be avoided, snacking with right food and right portion is essential, wait for the first hunger pang and then one has to eat, one should not mix hunger with the feeling of thirst, body rehydration with 3-4 liters of water is essential, grill food instead of frying, nuts consumption is healthy, minimize eating out, use of olive oil, canola oil, and vegetble oil as cooking medium is essential, lassi, chaach, skimmed milk beverages and shakes are to be avoided, to be vigilant in reading the tags of the packs of food items, especially the calorie and the protein density, soya drinks are always preferable.

While addressing the august gathering Ms. Savita Mehta, Vice President, Media Department, Amity Universe said that one has to be health conscious mentally as well as physically. Diet is of utmost importance for people of every age group irrespective of sex. Therefore, for a healthy lifestyle diet has to be taken care of. To relax our body and mind mediation, yoga, listening to music and to follow various hobbies according to one’s choice is also essential.

Ms. Savita Mehta urged the students that along with the fitness regime one has to be diet conscious too. Coke, chips, chocolates, junk food are to be avoided as far as possible. Low cholesterol, sugar free and oil free diet should be part of everyday diet. Nutrition with beauty is a good combination. As one can use fresh fruits and vegetbles for skin and body care. Ms. Mehta concluded with the note that one can do justice to ones body only with the intake of healthy and nutritious food.

There lecture was followed by a very interactive and informative question and answer session on healthy eating and lifestyle.

A “Nutritious Menu Planning Competition” was held amongst participants and Ms. Abha Bahuguna, Amity School of Hospitality (ASH) won the first prize, Ms. Anushreeta Neogy, Media Department, Amity University won the second prize, Ms. Ella Kashyap, Amity School of Engineering (ASET) won the third prize and Dr. Jaideep Kaur, Amity Business School (ABS) won the fourth prize
